Courier costs increase after listing closes
AnsweredI see there have been other posts regarding this but the problem seems to be getting worse. In good faith I set the price for the courier using the trademe courier calculator. The price the buyer selects is always less that the price that now gets offered by trademe/courier at close of auction when you go to book the courier. Todays example went from $11 to $18!! a 60% increase from the original $11 quoted one week earlier.
Trademe/courier should honour the original quote. or if other things (such as rural fee) change th eprice, the calculator should offer this to the buyer when bidding.
Its a rort.

They give an "estimate", it is not firm, depending on addresses it can vary, South Island is quite expensive to send now with some areas,
and with NZ Post
best thing to do is work out shipping costs to various areas Urban and rural, use my products and make a template,
It is not rocket science, you can also add a bit on to cover packaging etc.
But from $11 to $18 sounds like address maybe rural,
or the quotes you were given were best so would be Aramex, and you are trying to book NZ Post?
That will take it from the $11.00 mark to almost $18.00

The price offered when listing the item is the price for freight offered to the buyer. This is the price they expect to pay as you have offered this to them. Once the price has been accepted by the buyer, you cant change it. In this example, the buyer bought the item, clicked on the freight price offered ($11) and then paid immediately by Ping for the whole transaction. I dont believe there is a way to add an additional $7 to get the buyer to pay by Ping on its own??. And the buyer has already accepted what was offered anyway. Basic contract law of offer and acceptance.
To say it is an estimate is as good as saying the sale price is an estimate and change the price after the contract has been offered and accepted.
When you set the freight price when listing the site, it does not say 'Estimate Shipping'. It says 'Specify Shipping Costs'.
The word 'estimate' is not used at setup, and also not displayed when the buyer purchases the item. I have set up new items and looked at existing items and can not see the word 'Estimate' anywhere. This buyer is not rural. I checked on Aramex and NZ post website.

Is this a within/between island thing? I know for NZPost a small box is $10.17 within the same island but $17.64 if it's between islands.

when you use the 'courier shipping calculator' it gives you shipping costs for all areas (nth and sth) and rural etc. It lets you add this to the listing. Then when it sells, it uses the exact same info and provide a different price. Doesnt even seem o be a rural or non rural thing as the address wasn't rural when using the aramex and nz post online address checker.
This does seem to be a common issue as there are several other threads about it by the looks of it.

I also used the courier cost calculator in good faith when listing an item. But, when it came to book a courier, the price had gone up from $11.48 to $24 - over 100%. I have reached out to the buyer to pay the extra cost, but that is significant, and for some buyers, may change their ability to buy. It is also extremely rude that I cannot alter the estimates on my other listings.

I am having the same problem courier calculated $6.45 Aramex (courier non signature) urban Auckland, however when I book courier after sold the cost is $11.43? The delivery address is not a rural address. This has happened with my last 2x sold auctions both Auckland Urban addresses. Only 2 weeks ago and I was only paying $6.45 Aramex (courier non signature) within urban Auckland. I have been selling a few items lately and I was regularly paying this shipping cost. Is there a problem in the system somethings not right?

flossy63 Community SuperuserEditedIt appears your buyers address was out of the Auckland delivery Zone, not in Auckland,Warkworth is one place bad for this and your buyer would know that too, that their address would be outside the Auckland delivery Zone,Even though part of Auckland,Auckland boundaries and postal boundaries are different,in this case I would approach seller explaining to them that their address is Zoned outside the Auckland delivery Zoneand ask them to pay the correct Shipping, which would be within Island $11.43,Over the years, Warkworth is often a problem on bigger items,0
