Can't log in with VPN
AnsweredIt's really annoying having to disable my VPN and put my computer at risk in order to view or interact with my Trademe account. I have been a member since 2001 and this really puts me off using the site. I would say my site visits are down 60 - 70% over the past couple of months.
Does anyone have any workarounds. I'm using Nord VPN.
Thanks

Hi Chris. I will link a previous post below that discusses this issue. You can probably find more by doing a search yourself at the bar up top. Generally the response seems to be Trade Me don't allow it. However, there is a workaround........

Hi Thanks Callum, I have already read that post a while ago. I was just venting and hoping that Trademe may have found a solution for there loyal honest users... I guess not...
Cheers for your help

I agree, this is a very unfortunate aspect of Trade Me. I don't like having to compromise my security just to use Trade Me. I wonder why they reject VPN connections? Hopefully this is something they can change soon, seems like an unnecessary restriction to me.

Hello Bridget. My guess is that by using a VPN anyone in the world can then easily log into Trade Me. This is probably what they are trying to avoid? Scammers / Fake accounts etc would likely increase a lot and cause problems on the website if VPN restrictions were relaxed.

Hey Callum,
Found this post by searching for why I couldn't connect to TM, disabled my VPN and yes I can connect, I'm someone in the world and I want to log in so I can buy a grill and sell a VR headset, probably try F***Book marketplace instead.

Hi Callum. Sorry for thread-mining. I am having the same problem. I tried the link you posted to the previous post about a workaround, but Trademe have disabled/deleted that post. Are you able to share that workaround? Thanks.
Now, to switch my VPN back on.

Not sure what the solution was on that disabled post there I'm afraid Roger. Was just linking through an idea someone else had.

Trademe will need to allow VPN’s. They are becoming more and more widely used. It is frustrating to have to disable my VPN just to use the App. Myself and others I know, have also reduced or eliminated our Trademe use because of the VPN policy. Amazon or Facebook marketplace have no problems with VPN’s.

The difference is Richard, A and FB are worldwide marketplaces. Trade Me is not. You should only really be using Trade Me if you are in New Zealand (Or Australia.) Blocking VPNs goes a long way to help stop foreigners accessing Trade Me.

Compromising my security to prioritize corporate security. Unacceptable.
Sorry I can't add anything constructive.
I am just hoping someone from Trademe reads this as Trademe has become nearly unusable since using a VPN.
And I choose using a VPN over Trademe.

I'm yet another disgruntled tm user who gets irritated with the requirement to disable my vpn. There was a post with an answer/ link for a workaround. (Hi Chris. Unfortunately this link no longer works. Can anyone directly say what the workaround is?
Also get fed up with having to find and add sent code to login. Any workaround to avoid that one as well? My account, should be my choice around using/not using VPNS and codes; fed up with the 'nanny state' telling me what I can and can't do.

I think the work around was to change your vpn to South Korea or something like that. so not really a work aroud.
I hear your frustration with VPNs, logins and authentication codes. Its almost like the don't want us to use Trademe at all.

I agree wholeheartedly that trademe no longer wants loyal users. Also their change over payments having to be made with ping or credit cards (and hold that information :( ); just another disincentive esp for sellers who get charged a fee. At least, for the moment anyway, sellers can still give the cash option then email their bank details. I hardly bother with tm any more. Sadly the facebook marketplace option is rife with scams, no shows etc. On the whole, for smaller items, I now donate to a charity so they can get a little bit from it. Unfortunately, for larger, more valuable items, not a lot of choice. Bring back the original kiwi ingenuity designed tm without all the stupidity I say !!
