Can't log in with VPN
AnsweredIt's really annoying having to disable my VPN and put my computer at risk in order to view or interact with my Trademe account. I have been a member since 2001 and this really puts me off using the site. I would say my site visits are down 60 - 70% over the past couple of months.
Does anyone have any workarounds. I'm using Nord VPN.
Thanks

Hi Chris. I will link a previous post below that discusses this issue. You can probably find more by doing a search yourself at the bar up top. Generally the response seems to be Trade Me don't allow it. However, there is a workaround........

Hi Thanks Callum, I have already read that post a while ago. I was just venting and hoping that Trademe may have found a solution for there loyal honest users... I guess not...
Cheers for your help

I agree, this is a very unfortunate aspect of Trade Me. I don't like having to compromise my security just to use Trade Me. I wonder why they reject VPN connections? Hopefully this is something they can change soon, seems like an unnecessary restriction to me.

Hello Bridget. My guess is that by using a VPN anyone in the world can then easily log into Trade Me. This is probably what they are trying to avoid? Scammers / Fake accounts etc would likely increase a lot and cause problems on the website if VPN restrictions were relaxed.

Hey Callum,
Found this post by searching for why I couldn't connect to TM, disabled my VPN and yes I can connect, I'm someone in the world and I want to log in so I can buy a grill and sell a VR headset, probably try F***Book marketplace instead.

Hi Callum. Sorry for thread-mining. I am having the same problem. I tried the link you posted to the previous post about a workaround, but Trademe have disabled/deleted that post. Are you able to share that workaround? Thanks.
Now, to switch my VPN back on.

Not sure what the solution was on that disabled post there I'm afraid Roger. Was just linking through an idea someone else had.

Trademe will need to allow VPN’s. They are becoming more and more widely used. It is frustrating to have to disable my VPN just to use the App. Myself and others I know, have also reduced or eliminated our Trademe use because of the VPN policy. Amazon or Facebook marketplace have no problems with VPN’s.

The difference is Richard, A and FB are worldwide marketplaces. Trade Me is not. You should only really be using Trade Me if you are in New Zealand (Or Australia.) Blocking VPNs goes a long way to help stop foreigners accessing Trade Me.
