My buyer has opened a Dispute
AnsweredKia ora!
I sold an item a couple of weeks ago. The buyer was unhappy and wanted to return it (they assumed that it had a feature which it didn't.) Anyway, I gave him a refund minus shipping cost, since I am quite confident the item is as listed. As far as I knew, the buyer was happy with it and no feedback had been left.
Today, I received this email

I just wonder what the next steps are from here - I would like to submit a response to this but I am not given the opportunity.
I've tried to get in touch with Trade Me but I am finding no one replies to me via live chat - I'm not keen for a long argument, I just want to move on from what has been a difficult trade.

Kia Ora Shane,
I'm sorry to read this has happened after corresponding with the Buyer and providing a refund, which it sounds like, if you listed correctly the Buyer has changed their mind due to not confirming extra's expected.
These initial Dispute emails from TM are generic auto responses - after the first couple you will have an opportunity to provide your side and all details.
When you enter the Chat bot if you type - Talk to person - you will be taken to entering your details before arriving at the window to Chat with a Real Person/Staff - rather than leaving a message and awaiting day(s) response. The manned hours for Staff weekdays are 9:30:am - 5:00pm and weekends 9:30am - 4:pm.I would say not to concern yourself at this stage, Apply for your Success fee refund enabling you to relist the item and provide your case when the opportunity arises here in the process. All the Best - Cheers.2 -
Yeah it sounds like your buyer is a bit of a jerk - going straight to DEFCON 3. The only mistake I can see is that you didn't refund shipping, normally its expected that the seller will refund shipping as well as purchase price.
Did you get the item returned? You would have to pay return shipping on that as well. Or did you come too, or at least think you came too an agreement with the buyer - something like "I will refund you purchase price, but you can keep the item, and resell it yourself if you like, and keep the profits. Is this fine with you?"
T-Me may want to see the emails you guys exchanged as well, to see whats been agreed to.
I think if you refunded them the purchase price, and they have agreed to keep the item, its a little unreasonable on their part to be precious about the shipping cost, but their argument would be that if the item had been correctly described, they would have never made the purchase or incurred shipping costs, and they would probably be technically correct here.
Just sit tight and see what happens, you will get to explain your side of the trade.
