Item Returned to Sender - how do I find the buyer's contact details after 45 days?
AnsweredHi there,
I have sold an item and have sent it and the buyer did not pick up the parcel and it got returned to me and I do not have any of the buyers contacts as it has been more than 45 days. How do I get their contact so that I can either refund them, or try to send it again? And if I can't contact them do i just keep the money and the item?

Hi Max. The buyers contact details are in the email Trademe sent you when you sold the item, plus in a separate email when the buyer sent their delivery address if it was an auction rather than a buy now. You may also have a copy in your email sent items when you emailed them. If they paid by internet banking, most banks include the bank account of the payer if you click on details, so you can find it that way too.

Kia Ora Max,
No! you can't keep the item and payment, this is now your Buyer's property - you would have to refund them to keep or relist the item.
Search your emails for correspondence relating to this Trade from TradeMe & your Buyer, ensure you check your Sent & Draft folders also. - If your Buyer may have purchased via Ping you can also look your Ping transactions up online to pull your listing up and obtain your Buyers contact info'.
If you can't track this one there you can contact a TradeMe staff member via their "Live Chat" facility for assistance - Once you've selected the Contact us Chat Tab you need to give the landing page a count of 15+ seconds for the Chat Tab to Pop up in blue at the bottom right of your screen, there is a slight delay in this appearing.
All the Best - Cheers

S, you can't access buyers details online after 45 days via the Ping transactions. After 45 days all contact details online are not accessible.

Oh! Thanks Gary - I can get to the Sellers email address this way - How odd this isn't the same for Sellers tracking Buyer's details! - Much appreciated 😊
Apologies Max - Cheers.

You must be special S. All I get as a buyer or seller when I click a Ping transaction in my Ping transactions list older than 45 days is an Oops error message, which is how it's always been for me.

This box is at the top of the page ...
I Select the down arrow to select the date I want to scan back to here which I can do beyond the 45 days right back to the year and date of my first ever Ping payment made in 2016 ...
Select the Done Tab and all my transactions show to the date I specify.
Results are mixed - Some I do have pics for - 2019 I've pulled a Pic up - If it's a MQL I don't get the Seller's email though I do get their TM Member name. - For Auctions I get the Seller's email, My address etc.
- Cheers.

Max,
If you have placed feedback for this Buyer you can change the feedback once only to request they contact you by email if possible - they don't get re-emailed with the feedback change so you will have to gamble on them checking their feedback to see this - An alternate method would be if you know your Buyer's Member name you can see if they have current listings which you may be able to put a message through for them to make contact with you perhaps.
If all avenues are exhausted Live Chat with TradeMe staff who will be able to make contact with your Buyer for you. - Cheers.

Yes S, like I said, you are special. I just get the oops message if I try and view the listing from the Ping transactions on the old site, and on the new site I just get the listing with no contact details, no matter if Buy Now or auction, and same if seller or buyer. It would be nice if all members could see the same things.

Hi there Max -
WOW what a commendable chap you are my mans! You have gone to a lot of trouble to put this right, well done to you.
The buyer has paid for it, so it is their property but ... buyers are not allowed to to expect sellers to "Hold" items indefinitely. There comes a point where the item becomes "Abandoned" goods, where the seller is able to resell the item, and keep the original purchase price to offset the cost of storage. My understanding is that this point is reached after 90 days of having received payment, but you may wish to contact the commerce commission to clarify this one.
Its kind of odd that your buyer has not reached out to you after not having received their item? The is a responsibility on them as well to try and reach you. Perhaps they have died? This happens sometimes as well.
