Accepting an offer after listing has commenced
AnsweredIf I post a product and the bidding has commenced (one bid) and the reserve is met then I receive a "buy now" offer am I permitted to accept it and close the listing or am I obliged to let the process run its course?
If I accept the buy now offer (in error if that's not permitted) do I just advise the buyer that my acceptance is withdrawn?
No preference either way for me - just want to be doing the right (legal) thing.

Hi Jen. If the reserve price has been met, then the Buy Now option is no longer able to be used and the auction must run till the scheduled end time, although if it's the one bidder that has asked for the Buy Now, you can remove their bid and edit the auction to include the agreed Buy Now. Once that's there though, anyone can take it, so if the original asker/bidder is not quick enough, someone else may be. This is the right way to do it.

I have accepted a reserve price as a Buy Price for the Water feature that I have listed, how do I update the listing as sold. I want to be sure that I am doing the correct method

Just edit the listing and add the buy now price and voila, the buyer can then press buy now. You can't add a buy now of course if it already has bids.
What you are not supposed to do is what you have now done, ie post contact details in Q & A and ask the other member for their contact details so you can bypass Trademe.

When someone bids $1 as per my reserve price, does that mean I have to sell or can I refuse a bid.

If the reserve price has been met when the auction finishes, then that's the price you have to sell at. If you have made a mistake and input the incorrect reserve price, then remove bids, edit the reserve price, apologise to the bidders that you have made a mistake and hope they are understanding, or you can withdraw the listing and list again with the corrected reserve price. We all make mistakes.

Can I accept an offer lower than my buy now price? If so, how do I do that?

Yes, as long as reserve price has not been met. If it's through the special make an offer feature you can accept the offer there.
See the help pages.
Make an Offer – Help - Trade Me
If it's a simple Q & A offer, then just edit the listing to make the Buy Now the offer price and answer the question saying you have revised the price for them and they should click Buy Now.

Hi trade me had the option to "make an offer" on a $1 start with a set reserve. After receiving a bid for $1, I get an offer. Presume I can go ahead and negotiate with the buyer who made the offer ?

Kia Ora d,
Yes! if the Reserve has not been met you can accept an Offer or make a Counter Offer - Gary-NZStocked has covered this in his Comment above and here https://help.trademe.co.nz/hc/en-us/community/posts/4413741673997/comments/7517626776975
Once the Reserve has been met the Make an Offer & all existing Offers are void - Cheers.
