Scam-like request for trademe password on buy now purchase

This is not a scam, it is a security measure by Trade Me asking for your password, "Not the Seller asking for your Password", It is to make sure it is you buying and entering your card details, not someone who has access to your Trade Me but does not know your Trade Me password and maybe using a stolen card, so if they do not know your Trade me password they cannot proceed, like un authorised transactions of teenagers in house unbeknown to parents trying to buy stuff with their credit cards, This is why account holders should never share their Trade Me password,

It is not the seller requesting the password, it is TM. You are paying TM, who then pass the payment on to the seller. TM ask you for your password to verify you are the legitimate person using the account

Hi Stephen "It depends"
If you have been asked for your password within Trade Me on the same page you made your purchase, then as Donal says, this is normal. However if the seller has emailed you and asked for your password or directed you to another website, or a Trade Me lookalike, then that is a scam attempt.
