Made a mistake on listing and can't get hold of buyer
Hi - I've sold something on Trade me and made a huge mistake and didn't realise that my friend had already onsold the item to a friend (outside of trade me) but hadn't communicated that with me. So the item is no longer for sale. The buyer on my listing paid straight away. I have the buyers email address. I have emailed them 5 times over the last 24 hours asking for a phone number and telling them what I've done. I will of course fully refund them and feel terrible but I'm not sure what else I can do to get hold of them. Any ideas? I was hoping I could contact Trade Me but can't see where to do this. Debbie, usually you can log in to your internet banking and click the details beside the the deposit they made to see the bank account the money came from, well I can on Kiwibank anyway.
If they paid by Ping it's easy as you can go in to the sold auction, click the payment details and refunds link then input the refund amount, or on the new site the Refund link under the Ping payment.
You might also like to place feedback apologising and ask them to reply to emails you have sent them.

Hi Debbie. How did the buyer pay? If it was Ping you just reverse it. If it was bank transfer some banks, (eg Kiwibank) show the senders bank details so you can return it. Otherwise just wait. The buyer will soon wonder where their item is and ask. You can also leave positive feedback for them saying you are trying to make contact. If they have auctions running themselves you can also make contact that way by asking a question. But probably not worth sending any more emails at the moment. Can rub people up the wrong way if you spam them. You've done your best to contact them, now just wait for a response.

Hi Callum - yes, they paid by Ping. I just wanted to speak to them by phone and apologise and I just hope they don't give me negative feedback as it's a genuine mistake that I've been trying to contact them about. OK, I'll reverse the Ping payment (and hopefully they'll get the full amount back as I'm happy to pay any fees) and then, you're right. I just need to wait. It's very out of character for me and I like to put things right! Thanks for your comment. :)
