Tax receipts
AnsweredI am still a bit confused about how a self employed person should create a valid tax receipt from a Trade Me purchase. i.e. I refer to when I BUY an item and I want proof that I have purchased it for my business. What do others do? There does not seem to be a place where I can print a tax receipt anywhere? Are the details of purchase that accompany emails sufficient?

If the purchase is from an in trade seller, you ask the seller to send you a receipt.
If the purchase is from a private seller, go to your Won Items https://www.trademe.co.nz/MyTradeMe/Buy/Won.aspx click the listing title, and print that page (or print as a PDF).
If you are GST registered you can claim the GST on
1. New items sold by sellers who are GST registered
2. Secondhand items sold by anybody (doesn't matter if they are registered or not)

Thanks for that James. Appreciated. It looks like there is a maximum of 45 days to print won items from private sellers? That seems quite short. I would have hoped it went back to the start of the current tax year?

Printing your email copy of the Ping payment you made, if you used Ping or Afterpay, will be fine. If internet banking, just use the email plus a copy of your bank transfer.

Look, again I ask about this?
I followed the instruction above " If the purchase is from a private seller, go to your Won Items https://www.trademe.co.nz/MyTradeMe/Buy/Won.aspx click the listing title, and print that page (or print as a PDF)." This is all well and good, but it does not appear like a legitimate receipt. I don't want to print 3 pages of details for a small business expense. I just want one page with the info on it. Not sure why you cant have an actual tax receipt section. I have not made ping payments.

Probably back to your original post Steve. Yes, your emails and bank records are sufficient proof as a receipt. Electronic records are fine but if you want a paper record, just print the one page email you received when you won/bought and if you want to, write on it Paid by internet banking and the date. This can then be matched with your bank statements if the need arises. I hardly ever print any purchases out, but just keep all emails to do with buying in a Purchases folder and they can easily be matched with my bank records which I've only had to do a couple of times.
