What to do if the buyer pulls out of a trade.

If the buyer has pulled out of the sale, here's what to do.

  1. Apply for a success fee refund.
    Most issues are resolved this way. We'll try to get the trade back on track by reminding the buyer of their obligations.

  2. Refund the buyer – if they've paid.
    If the buyer hasn't received the goods, they need to be refunded. Even if they've pulled out of the trade.

  3. Relist, or send a Fixed Price Offer.
    We'll notify watchers from the original listing when you relist or send an offer.

  4. If the buyer's refusing to go through with the trade, and you feel strongly that they should:
    Place feedback
    Your local Citizens Advice Bureau link-external-16.svg can offer advice if you'd like to take things further.

Buyers and sellers are obliged to complete any trades they enter into – unless they've both agreed to cancel.

Relisting

  • Available for auction, buy now, and classified listings – within 45 days of closing. 
  • Free – unless extras are selected. View fees for: Marketplace | Motors | Property | Jobs
  • We'll notify members who had your listing on their watchlist.


If the option to relist isn't available – create a new listing or 'Sell similar'.

1. Select Sold from My Trade Me.
2. Select the listing.
3. Under 'If the sale falls through', select relist this item.

Fixed Price Offer

  • Available for auction and Buy Now listings – within 45 days of closing.
  • Can be sent to members who had your listing on their watchlist – to accept or decline within one, three, or seven days.
  • If an offer is accepted, we'll notify you.
  • The listing can't be edited, and questions can't be answered.
  • Can be used once per listing.


If a Fixed Price Offer isn't accepted, you can relist.

1. Select Sold from My Trade Me.
2. Select the listing.
3. Under 'If the sale falls through', select Make a fixed price offer.

4. Enter your offer price, choose a duration, and select members to send the offer to.
