So, again in principle, and I’m not condoning this, but if I were selling an item I could get a friend to put a very high auto bid value, become the highest bidder, remove the (non-genuine) high bid and leave the next highest (genuine) bidder having to buy at the highest price they were prepared to pay? Unless they also request removal of their bid that is.

So just so I'm clear on this, trademe apparently legally obliges buyers to pay for auctions they bid on (by specifically requiring them to click that they understand their legal obligation) while also obliging sellers to remove those same bids? And anyone who has been in an autobid battle with that withdrawing bidder may be getting ripped off?
Hi all, I have a bidder who placed an auto bid to get the high bid on my auction who now wishes to cancel the bid because he or she has won a separate auction for a similar item. What action can be taken against bidders like this? I know if I don’t remove the bid the trade won’t go through but this sort of thing is getting pretty regular with trade me, with people thinking they can bid on whatever they like and choose later if they actually want it.
