Callum this is still not clear to me either.  I would really be grateful if you'd respond point-by-point to my questions.  This is my understanding so far1). Extending (features are charged automatically) - So until the listing has expired (which is in two days for me).... I have the option of extending. The email I received said "any promotional extras used (e.g. Feature listing) will be charged again on extension" which I took to mean that it is automatically charged (which I don't want), other articles have indicated I can select not to have the promotional extras. 2).
