Can sellers put a stop on Q & A?
AnsweredI'm very interested in buying an item on my Watchlist, I went to ask a question and was informed "You are unable to use this feature". I thought that was odd, has never happened to me before (I've been using TM since 2006). I thought maybe he had blacklisted me though I've never bought or sold from him and he has only been a member for a year. I then saw he has 58 listings in total, I tried asking a question on another item and again was unable. I then realised that there are ZERO questions asked on ANY of his auctions, so somehow he is preventing questions being asked by all buyers. I've neve heard of this - surely this is not allowed under TM regs? If so it is ridiculous. I would appreciate a response from TM staff please, I tried to report the listing but found this almost impossible as the drop down boxes offered did not really relate to my query. Thanks, Mike

I'm not TM, but, no Mike, sellers can not turn Q & A off, only Trademe can do that. They often do it if they are waiting for proof the seller has the goods, or proof the goods are genuine, or if the seller has repeatedly tried to bypass the auction with email or phone contact details posted.
If you come across this, it's probably a good warning to take care.
You can check by asking a Q on another sellers listing, as a double check it's not your own account that's restricted.

Thanks for that Gary. Its definitely not me that's restricted. I think your suggestion re TM turning off Q & A is on the money, I think I remember seeing an earlier listing of his a few weeks ago with phone numbers in Q & A. The problem is it makes it impossible to check details with the seller prior to purchase :(

Yes, It can make things awkward, but Trademe don't do this without warning, so if the seller is intent on breaking Trademe rules, it might suggest they would not hesitate to break other rules of the land, like taking your money and not sending the goods, so be careful.

Could Trademe in such a case then relay my question to the seller: is the Mammoth insulation item listed as used by mistake as the plastic wrapping looks new? Listing #3953512028
