buyer wants a refund
Answeredsomeone bought a second hand bike off me it was 2 years old they come to pick it up and all was good they liked it the next day they texted me saying the think something is wrong with the gear cable and they will replace it now after 10 days they are saying they are taking it to the bike shop to see whats wrong with it and if its to expencive to fix they will bring it back for a refund. its a 2 year old bike second hand and they have now made alterations to the bike. and i entitled to give a refund? can anyone help me with this please.

no no, even ifyou are in trade, under the CGA you have the first right to repair then replace and then refund, I would suggest they get on the bike

Rebecca, you do not have to refund and in fact the buyer must consult with you BEFORE undertaking any alterations or repairs. It is your right to put it right yourself if you choose to, but really if the buyer has had it for 10 days you have no idea what they have done to it in that time. Something wrong with a gear change cable is usually a simple maintenance or adjustment issue and it will depend on how the bike is used eg what strain you put on it while changing gears and how often you do that. To adjust a cable is a 5 min job anyone can usually do themselves and a replacement would often be done by the owner too. Did they give any detail as to what is wrong with the gear cable? Simply saying something is wrong is not good enough eg does it miss a gear when changing gear, does it not change properly, have they tried to adjust themselves etc etc.
