Auction set to 'Buyer must pick up' but buyer wants shipping
I set my auction to buyer must pick up, but the buyer says they didn't see that and need me to ship the item. Can I refuse? If so, what happens next?
Thanks

Kia Ora Emily,
Yes you can refuse Or reconsider shipping.
TradeMe have a Book a courier option, the courier will pick the item up from your front door, you don't need to leave home, you need to pack the item & charge the Buyer courier fees, however if you do require the item picked up by the Buyer advise them shipping is not an option you wish to take then cancel the Trade by requesting your success fee refund from TM. - You are not wrong, the Buyer has admitted they didn't read the listing details in full and missed the 'Pick up only' instruction. - Cheers.

Hi there Emily - Its never nice when this happens.
First of all, never let a buyer bully you into something you dont want to do. The story of them not realizing it was buyer must pick-up is B.S, they had to have ticked the Buyer must pick-up box when they placed the bid.
So you are 100% ok to stand your ground. ( I rather you would, that way they will be less inclined to try this again with another seller, and that other seller might be me!)
However you do have other options - If you felt inclined you could ship it to them. There are some great videos out there on YouTube on how to make a really good and safe package. You follow one of them, package it up, then if you go to the NZ Post website they have a shipping calculator you put in the Height/Width/Depth measurements and add their address and select your nearest post shop, and that will give you the cost. You then email your buyer and tell them what the cost is. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES pay for postage, before they have paid you. ( There are lots of posts in this community about people shipping before payment, and never getting paid).
Now option 3 ... which is incidentally the one I like to use. Buyer must pick up, but we are happy to package for you if you want to organize your own courier. So in this scenario they pay you for the item. You then package it for them, send the buyer the weight and size dimensions, and they organize a courier to come and collect it themselves, This is still "Buyer Must Pick-up" because someone will turn up on your doorstep and take it away - it doesn't matter who! If its an item that you dont want to pack, i.e. dont have the materials or too awkward of a shape, then they can organize Pack and Send to collect the item. They offer a packing as well as a delivery service. As this was a buyer must pick-up auction it is the buyers responsibility to sort out their own pick-up arrangements.
You do you Emily, you are the one who is in control of this situation. Good luck with whatever move you make!

Kia Ora Emily,
It sounds like the Buyer has asked a question regarding shipping rather than demanded shipping. Whilst they may have selected Pick up when bidding did they realise you both lived in separate towns or mistook the auction for being in the same town?
I ask this because Community had a Poster who is new to TradeMe who on their first bidding auction mistakenly bid not realising at the time the town was not the same - an easy oversight for a newby finding their way, nervous and possibly young or foreign, potential language barriers etc. attempting to manoeuvre through the TM platform - it is easy to find oneself in totally different locations when scrolling through the "Other listings you may like" at the bottom of a live listing.
What seems easy for some is not for all - this person may even have dyslexia or like. Regardless of reason they haven't demanded - rather asked a question which is quite easy to respond to - shipping is not a dramatic ordeal if the item is able to be shipped - costs are provided through TM - there is no reason to leave home - equally it is a simple email to the Buyer stating shipping is not an option - requesting your success fee from TM is a quick process - relist your item if/when any possible payment made has been refunded to the Buyer.
All the Best - Cheers.
