Replica/Counterfeit coins
I am concernd that replica or counterfeit coins can be traded on trade me. Many of these 'coins' are gold replicas and although the seller may say the item is a replica the word 'Replica' or 'Copy' is not stamped on the 'coin'. Once the item has been purchased I can't see that there would be restrictions on the purchaser reselling the item as a genuine 'coin'. In reality it appears that Trade Me allows the trading of potential counterfeits and conterfeit coins are illegal. It is concerning that many of the replicas are gold 'coins' that a possible buyer could be fooled by.
I understand the term caveat emptor and its meaning.
I feel if a coin is sold as a replica but does not have 'replica' or 'copy' clearly stamped on its body it may effectively be counterfeit.
I'm not complaining, I am just interested.

Kia ora Craig, thanks for reaching out. The sale of counterfeits is illegal in New Zealand so we don't allow them on the site, you can report listings you believe are counterfeit via Community watch at the bottom of the listing. When it comes to coins, certain reproductions are permitted we have more information on this here.
