Accepted Offer now wants to look at car
AnsweredHi everyone, just wondering what I should do and how I report a seller to Trade Me - I have a car listed, the guy offered me a price I was happy with yesterday and I accepted. Then got the email from Trade Me - Congratulations you have sold your vehicle. Once I contacted him through email, the buyer then said he wanted to meet yesterday to make sure it was okay before he paid. Managed to get a cell phone number so gave him a call, said he would get back to me with a time later in the day as I was at work. Didn't hear from him, finally got him to message me, and he said that yesterday now didn't suit and he would contact me next week.
My question is - he made an offer and I accepted it. Shouldn't he have checked it all out before making the offer?? On looking at his profile, he only has 1 feedback which is negative and seems he's done the same thing to another trader. Any suggestions?? And also, shouldn't Trade Me be notified about him so that they can remind him of the terms of making an offer? Any advice you can give would be great. Thanks.

Hello Dawn.
Yes! Unless you agreed to his terms beforehand, by accepting the offer he has entered into a legally binding contract to purchase it.
You could remind your buyer of this. However you do have to be sensible about these things. You probably wouldn't be expected to pay for a vehicle if you bought it and then arrived to find it significantly varied from the photos and description. It could just be that the buyer wants to be sure the engine hasn't dropped onto the driveway.
Personally I would just wait to see how it plays out before you contact Trade Me.
