Buyer paid into my old cancelled bank account

Help! I sold an item and didn't realise my automated message from 8+ years ago had an old bank account in the payment instructions. The bank account is now closed. The buyer has paid to this account.
How can the buyer get back the funds?

Gary-NZStocked Community SuperuserEditedUsually the payment would be reversed to the buyer, but the buyer should contact their bank to check on the process as it may take some time.
Also, hopefully you've updated your bank details in your payment instructions now so this doesn't happen again. If you give the buyer your new bank account and explain what has happened they can deposit to new bank account and they will get the original deposit back via their bank.
