Afterpay enables buyers to purchase items and receive them straight away - while paying them off in four fortnightly interest-free payments - the seller gets paid up front.
Afterpay for sellers
When buyers select Afterpay as their payment option, sellers get paid up front and Afterpay organises payment with the buyer. Once you're registered for Pay Now, Afterpay will show as a payment option when you're creating listings on transactions valued up to $1,200.
Once the sale is complete you’ll receive full payment, less fees, within 3 business days. You’ll receive an email with payment confirmation and delivery details.
You pay a 4.95% fee of the total purchase, including shipping costs. This fee is additional to any success fees you incur on a sale.

Does Afterpay cost?
Afterpay is free for buyers, providing you pay instalments on time.
For sellers, you pay 4.95% of the purchase, including shipping costs. This fee is additional to any success fees you incur on a sale.
Who can use Afterpay?
Afterpay is available to Trade Me members who:
- live in NZ
- are at least 18 years old
- are capable of entering into a legally binding contract
- have a valid and verifiable email address and mobile number
- use a NZ debit or credit card to make the purchase.
How to add Afterpay to your listings
If you’re registered for Pay Now, you can add Afterpay as a payment method for your listings.
Afterpay is only available when listing via the desktop site, or listing tools like Tradevine and My Products. Other integrators like ChannelAdvisor and OMINS are set up with Afterpay.
Is Afterpay safe?
Yes. Afterpay is a PCI DSS Level 1 certified compliant Service Provider organisation. This is the highest level of security in the payment industry.
Is Afterpay available for all categories?
Afterpay is available on Marketplace general items.
In some categories, Afterpay is only available when the buyer has a feedback rating of at least 2.

Category restrictions for Afterpay are all subject to change.
How much can you spend using Afterpay?
There is no minimum spend with Afterpay on Trade Me, the maximum amount you can spend on one item is $1200.
Afterpay also have their own process which limits how much you can spend with them.
How do refunds work with Afterpay?
Refunds for purchases made using Afterpay work in a similar way to Ping, except that Afterpay manages the return of any owed funds to the buyer, rather than Trade Me. Sellers can issue a full or partial refund for items purchased with Afterpay.
To issue a refund, select 'Payment received' on the auction from your 'Sold’ page – select 'Issue refund' to complete the process.
You can issue one refund per purchase, and your Afterpay fees will be automatically refunded. Full refunds result in all associated transaction fees being refunded, and for partial refunds, only the fees on the portion of the sale will be refunded.
Can I use Afterpay with the Shopping Cart?
No. At this stage the Shopping Cart does not support the use of Afterpay.
Does Buyer Protection apply to Afterpay listings?
Yes. In the same way it does with Pay Now and Ping.
