Learn about using Afterpay on Trade Me – for buyers and sellers.

Buying
How it works
- Buy now, pay later – in four fortnightly instalments.
- No fees for buyers, providing instalments are paid on time – and offers Buyer Protection.
- Available on auction and Buy Now listings, where the seller has offered it as a payment option (transactions up to $2,000.00).
Afterpay isn't available for Cart purchases. Multiple items can be bought by purchasing them individually.
To pay with Afterpay
- Find a listing that offers payment via Afterpay. See 'Payment Options' on the listing details.
- Select
on the listing.
- Select Afterpay for your payment method.
- Confirm your purchase – then log into your Afterpay account to make payment.
- Find a listing that offers payment via Afterpay. See 'Payment Options' on the listing details.
- Place your bid or Auto-bid.
- After winning the auction, go to Won items.
- Select Pay with Afterpay – then log into your Afterpay account to make payment.
To register with Afterpay, buyers must:
- live in NZ
- be at least 18 years old
- be capable of entering into a legally binding contract
- have a valid and verifiable email and mobile number
- use a NZ debit or credit card to make the purchases.

Selling
How it works
- Sellers receive payment upfront (less any fees). Payments received appear instantly in your Pay Now & Afterpay account.
- Afterpay handles receiving payments from the buyer.
- Available for transactions up to $2,000.00.
To receive payment via Afterpay:
- Register for Pay Now.
- Select Afterpay as a payment option when creating a listing, in an eligible category.
Fees
- A transaction fee of 4.95% is automatically deducted from the total payment amount (including shipping).
- Success fees may also apply.
- Afterpay fees are refunded automatically when a full or partial refund is made.
Restrictions & exclusions
Auctions in 'Pets & animals' categories are eligible for Afterpay.
Buyers must have a feedback rating of 2 or higher to pay with Afterpay in these categories:
- Parts & accessories categories for Cars, Boats & marine, Caravans & motorhomes, Motorbikes and trailers
- Car stereos
- Computers
- Electronics & photography
- Gaming
- Gemstones
- Jewellery (under Antiques & collectables)
- Mobile phones
- Phonecards
- Royal family
- Watches
Afterpay can't be used for these categories:
- Alcohol related
- Businesses for sale
- Earthmoving machinery
- Food & beverage
- Forklifts & pallet movers
- Harvest & post-harvest
- Horses & ponies
- Hunting & shooting
- Livestock
- Poultry
- R18 - Adult
- Tobacco-related
- Tractors
- Trailers & transportation
- Travel
- Events & activities
- Wine
- Banknotes
- Coins
