Create your account
You’ll supply some details when you create a personal account.
- Your first name and username appear publicly on your Trade Me profile.
- You’ll use your email address to log in and communicate with other members.
- Your date of birth and phone number stay private.
- Your address should be where you live. You can add separate shipping addresses later.
- Closest town appears on your listings and lets other members know where the items you’re selling are located.

To create a personal account on the Trade Me website:
1. Go to trademe.co.nz, and select Register in the top-right.2. Select Personal use and complete the form to create a personal account.
3. Head to your email inbox to find a confirmation email.
4. In the email, select Yep it's me to activate your membership.
To create a personal account on the iOS app:
1. Download Trade Me from the App Store.2. Go to My Trade Me profile-framed, then select Register.
3. Complete the three steps.
4. Head to your email inbox to find a confirmation email.
5. In the email, select Yep it's me to activate your membership.
To create a personal account on the Android app:
1. Download Trade Me from Google Play.2. Go to My Trade Me profile-framed, then select Create an account.
3. Complete the four steps.
4. Head to your email inbox to find a confirmation email.
5. In the email, select Yep it's me to activate your membership.
We only allow members to trade from New Zealand or Australia, unless we’ve approved them as an international seller.
Verify your email address
To finish setting up your account, you’ll need to verify your email address. After you create your account, check your inbox for a confirmation email.
If the email hasn’t arrived:
- look in your junk and spam folders
- make sure the email you registered with doesn’t have any typos.
Problems creating a personal account
If you already have a Trade Me membership
You can only have one Trade Me membership. If you already have one, log in to use your account or to update details like your email address or username.
If you’re overseas
We only allow members from New Zealand or Australia, unless they’re approved as an international pro-seller.
If you get an error on the phone number field
Double check the your phone numbers formatting. You’ll need to include the right prefix. For example, 021 or 027.
If you can’t find your address with the address finder
You can enter your address manually. Select Can’t find your address? next to the address finder.
