Set up passkey authentication
Learn how to set up passkey authentication for Traded Me on your browser or device.
Secure your Trade Me account by using a passkey (like Face ID, Touch ID, or a device PIN) each time you log in.
About passkey authentication
Passkeys are a faster and safer way to log in without a password. Instead of trying to remember and type a password, a passkey lets you use the built-in security on your phone or computer.
You simply unlock your account the same way you unlock your device. You can use your fingerprint, a face scan (like Face ID), or your screen lock PIN.

Set up passkey authentication
To set up passkey authentication on Trade Me:
1. Log in to trademe.co.nz on your browser (Setting up MFA isn’t available in the iOS app or Android app).
2. Go to My Trade Me.
3. Under ‘Update my details’, select Manage multi-factor authentication.
4. Open a new tab in your browser or use your email app to find a confirmation code in your inbox. Don’t refresh trademe.co.nz or completely close your Trade Me app to check your email— if you do, we'll send another code.
5. Enter the code from your email.
6. Under 'Add more backups' select Passkey.
7. Follow your device's or browser's on-screen prompts to create and save your passkey (this usually involves scanning your fingerprint, using Face ID, or entering your device PIN).
8. A confirmation screen will appear once your passkey is saved.
Next time you log in, you'll be prompted to use your passkey to verify it's you.
Edit your passkey name
If you use Trade Me on a few different devices, you might end up with multiple passkeys. Giving each passkey a clear name (like "My iPhone" or "Work Laptop") helps you easily keep track of them.
