I recently sold something that was quite bulky and a buyer asked prior to bidding for the cost of delivery to another part of Auckland. I offered to drop it for $7 but didn’t know the actual address which turned out to be a lot further away than I had hoped. In the end I probably lost $10 on the trade, so it can work both ways. The ird km cost for running a car is $1.04 so unless it’s a very short distance or you’re already going there it’s not going to be profitable to deliver a trade yourself.
I have someone currently arguing over the cost of packaging for an LP record. Shipping collectable LPs in mint condition is risky because damage to the sleeve can devalue the item, and she is obviously a reseller. I put on the auction "Can be shipped in vinyl mailer", but didn't add shipping costs due to the complication of factoring the actual cost to me of a vinyl mailer ($3.50) into that. The buyer (who didn't inquire about shipping costs before bidding) is arguing I should make one for free using cardboard, tape and bubble wrap, and about the total cost (it's in an area where Aramex is ...
There's some software bug on the IOS mobile app not allowing me to save drafts. Comes up with a gibberish message. Not sure if it will let me finish a listing at all at the moment. Been like this for 2-3 days
Wow, 6 weeks is quite generous. I sent the buyer a message saying he was going to be charged storage after a final date. That got him motivated and he collected it the day after the final date. Needless to say he got a red face. I have added something to my payment instructions now
There seems to be two problems. Unless I've missed something you can't show both Aramex and NZ Post delivery charges, and Aramex charges much higher rates for some rural properties that NZ Post doesn't class as RD. The second problem is that Trademe sends them the cost of non-rural delivery automatically if they don't have their address loaded. Some rural buyers pay that and send a delivery address that doesn't have a rural delivery code, hoping they will get away with it. Just got another trying it on today. Trademe needs to improve the app so that buyers seeking delivery need to enter th...
The last response was he was going to get his brother to pick it up but hasn’t responded to further messages for some time. I will tell him he will be paying storage fees of $10 per week.
Sold a large item (2m long, a pain to have sitting around). Had lots of difficulty getting any response from buyer (who has about 10% negative feedback). Eventually got paid after about 10 days. 25 days after the sale the item hasn't been uplifted, in spite of several reminders. I've threatened to chuck it out if it isn't collected today in order to bring it to an end. Is this reasonable?
Another reason to use Trademe less. I would have thought they could ill afford to lose any more business to Marketplace
Ok I hadn’t spotted that option, and it may deter some from trying to avoid it but in most cases it seems to be a deliberate strategy to ignore what it says in the listing or mislead, eg by sending the address with RD omitted and asking what the total cost is including shipping
I get that but if you’re using a shipping option other than tm couriers (eg nz post bag) there isnt room to stick that in easily
