Trade Me have only removed the bank transfer option to increase their profits, pure & simple. Charging Ping fees on postage is another grab also. Why not let the seller also have the option of bank transfer as a method of payment? Oh & have Trade Me fixed the software bugs that have dogged the site for the last year plus yet or are we just given to accept that now? Over to you Callum.
Why should Trade Me take a percentage off in-trade sellers shipping/postage charges? Is there any reason for this, other than they can? Ping on top of that is getting a bit rich. Are we supposed to pass this expense onto the buyer when NZ Post's charges are already up there? If Trade Me care so much about buyer protection/reputable members etc, then why do they continue to allow members with gross numbers of negative feedback to continue to trade?
Michelle, why are casual sellers exempt from the infliction of Ping? I'm sure it would be a popular decision for the rest of NZ to get on board, China too. How's the bug fixing coming along also? I guess if you add something to your watchlist, that doesn't really mean it should stay there. All part of the 2024-25 Trade Me service.
Callum, it's the fact that it is being forced on some & not all & that there's a 2.1% surcharge. Trade Me clearly feels as though they need to follow eBay's model with PayPal in order to take another slice of the pie. The viewing numbers on auctions are way down & they're never coming back up to what they once were. If you place the same item on Fbook Marketplace, you are going to get a heck of a lot more views & interest for better or worse. Adding a surcharge onto a site, which is already fast dwindling in popularity with Kiwi's, may net some short term revenue but things look bleak for t...
I hope so too. What was once a great site, has turned so lame, that Marketplace has become a necessary evil because at least people look there.
There should be no overseas sellers full-stop on Trade Me. Aussie bidders are fine in the main but even then there's always going to be more than the occasional problem with posting overseas/receiving payment etc. The rubbish being sold out of China is an embarrassment to Trade Me, why on earth would you open the floodgates to that mass-produced disposable junk. Solely for more money regardless of the aggravation that goes with it & the inability to police it.
Michelle, our voices are clearly not of any importance to you whatsoever, although the 2.1% Ping surcharge is very important. Better get some more sellers out of China to clog up the categories with plastic drink bottles & novelty key chains. Perhaps you can offer them free shipping.
Hey Callum, why are only in-trade sellers looking to be hit with the no bank transfer option? Are everyday sellers some form of better class or are we just the needy lepers that actually need to sell things for an income? I think it would be o for oarsome if Trade Me removed the no bank transfer option full-stop, force Ping on all & sundry & then see how popular Trade Me is with the general public.
I reckon they'll do hard labour &/or be forced to accept Ping as a method of payment.
Trade Me doesn't seem in any great hurry to remediate their mess. Yes, I can now find the items I won by selecting the mobile option on my desktop but of the two auctions I have recently won, the price is incorrect for one of them. This is Jim Henson Muppets material!
