Sorry to hear that, Shane. It is so sad that many Trademe businesses are packing up. True the economy is not doing great but partially the blame should go to Trademe as well because they don't do anything such as advertising in media at all! When you open your phone to read a news item just count how many Temu and other Chinese seller ads appear? May be almost every time! How many Trademe ads appear telling kiwis to buy from a kiwi company? A big ZERO! When I started in 2005 the TM commission was 2.9% and today it is over 10% with Ping charges!! Where has all that profit gone?? What help a...
I actually googled to find out why my sales are down in Trademe and then came here. Yes I agree with most common idea of commenters here that the days are numbered for most of Trademe sellers. I also had a micro level small auto parts business in Trademe since 2015. It was small but a thriving business until about late last year, particularly bad was last 3 months. There were several weeks that I didn't sell anything which had never happened pre-2023. I believe the real reason lies with very high Trademe, Afterpay and NZ courier fees rather than overseas marketers. Hardly any NZ consumer wa...
Reasons well known Paul. Pay the extra and put them in Gallery or Feature - you will hit the page 1 :)))
Shay and Shane, I am with you on all aspects you mentioned of this diminishing website. You don't have to be a genius to understand where Trademe will end up considering the way and speed it is going down at. Like you said I am also trying to clear the stocks and finish off after reducing prices as much as 50% but with not much luck. I have completely stopped buying new stocks for the last 14 months and doing nothing else but killing time until reach the end of my business which I don't think that far away..... :(
Getting worst I believe Fawn! I just had the worst December in 9 years of my 'In Trade' account. Could be because of the worst year of the economy in recent memory. But people not visiting Trademe as they used to, for whatever the reason, is definitely a major factor too.
Hi there, thanks for your reply! That 'live chat' link doesn't work. Cheers, thilak
Hello Trademe, I used a second category listing today the charge was indicated as 55cts per listing but I see you have charged 99cts from my account! Why the double standard?? Isnt it cheating? I hope you will reply me soon. Cheers Thilal
Alex, so true! The downhill started when NZ ownership transferred to overseas equity funds. This happens to so many kiwi businesses. It always gobsmack me why do these companies always fail in the end while having so many pundits with MBA degrees in their portfolio?? So many great kiwi startups sold to overseas funds have done so bad and have vanished into thin air - such as Navman. This trend ruins businesses, shatter the lives of workers and then those who were responsible board their private jets and fly away - lose, lose for everyone. And the cycle keeps going on n' on...!!
Thanks for that Gary! I dont know why I am charged 9.9% (see the screenshot) plus ping payments - that is over 10%!!! It is definitely not 7.9% now! Cheers T
