Yeah, listing visibility is all over the show. Even doing a search for something and refreshing gets you more or less results each time.
My theory is they axed it because most buyers didn't know it was a thing and not enough sellers made use of it. Of course TradeMe could've made it clearer to buyers, but chose not to. Maybe one day they'll reintroduce it in the new UI one day, in a better form.
That's a good point. I've often wondered the same, who buys them. To the average joe, unaware of AliExpress (and usually sub par quality goods), some of the prices look decent. I always figured it's a numbers game they play, just flood TM with the max listings they can with inflated prices (even charging extra for "shipping"), even if only a small percentage of there listings sell, they're so inflated that it still returns a profit, and it's probably all automated, (looking at the luck of support most give). I'd imagine they paid TM a premium to list 32,000 items, or whatever deal they got...
Oh I 100% agree with you, I too would love to have a pref to tick to only see local sellers with local stock. But I think it's a step in the right direction. This coming from a TM that hasn't really done anything for the consumers on TM with regards to international sellers.
It should be better now that TM is forcing (I believe everyone) to use there new shipping template, which forces the seller to give a shipping eta, regardless of where it's coming from. So even those sellers with an office in NZ but no stock, will be easier to spot from the search results.
Never knew Pass the Parcel was integrated into BAC once, that's wild. But I suspect you're right, as it was in TM's old help pages. But yeah, if you get pre-made bags at say DLE size, there is only so much height you can fit into it. I used to (and still do) re-use larger bags, but just tape them down into a smaller size, which is why I initially went looking for bag height.
A few years ago I remember reading 10cm being max height for bags on some TM docs, but can't find it back now.
Hmm weird, yeah I can't find the tracking details anywhere on the new page either :( I've left feedback to TradeMe, hopefully they'll add it back. Seems like a strange thing to leave out. All I can suggest to you is to do the same, hit the "Tell us what you think" button near the bottom of the page.
