Community Guidelines

Welcome to Community –  part of Trade Me’s Help Centre, a place for members to ask and answer questions of each other to use Trade Me successfully. You’ll also find Trade Me staff engaging and moderating in the community to keep Community content helpful and easy to find. Please read and follow our rules for Community below and remember one of our Trade Me values –  don’t be a dick. 

DOS & DON’TS

Dos

• Keep the Community Trade Me related
• Ask questions and provide helpful, correct information in your answers 
• Be friendly, kind and respectful
• Stay in line with Trade Me’s terms and conditions, and keep it legal

Don’ts

• Post or discuss content unrelated to Trade Me
• Use inappropriate or offensive language, or hate speech
• Abuse, harass, or be disparaging toward people, or spam or troll the Community
• Share any contact information, or breach anyone’s privacy

RULES

Keep it relevant & only Trade Me related

As part of our Help Centre, Community is a place for your peers to ask questions and give accurate advice, information, tips and technical help about Trade Me services. So our users can find the information they need easily, any conversations outside of this will be removed. All information shared should be correct and up to date – we may remove or correct information that is not. 

Keep it respectful

Always be kind, helpful and respectful in Community – remember we were all new to Trade Me once, and Trade Me staff are human, too. Inappropriate or offensive language and content is not acceptable, and we don’t tolerate any abuse, harassment, personal attacks or disparaging comments. Do not impersonate Trade Me staff, or post about action taken by Trade Me. Anything we deem to be disrespectful or disparaging may be removed. 

Keep it constructive

Posting in Community to cause trouble, start a contentious topic, derail a discussion or incite an emotional response from others is not OK. Excessive over-posting or spamming is also unacceptable.

Keep it safe and legal

Don’t post anything that breaches any intellectual property rights or anyone’s privacy – including any information which identifies members of the public who have name suppression. To keep yourself and others safe, don’t share any contact details in Community, including your own. Don’t post or link to any malicious software or to content that promotes or encourages illegal activities. Be careful you don't post defamatory statements about anyone. 

Keep it fair 

Don’t breach our site terms & conditions or use Community to circumvent our policies. We don’t allow Community to be used for self promotion, including any Trade Me listings or Stores. If you have concerns about a user, get in touch. If you have concerns about a listing, report this through Community Watch at the bottom of every listing.

Trade Me reviews all Community content, and reserves its rights to modify or remove any Community content at its sole discretion. Repeated breaches of Community guidelines may result in restrictions to your Trade Me account.
