Start your search
To start a search on the Trade Me website:
1. On the Trade Me homepage, enter a search phrase into the search bar.
2. Select Search.
To start a search on the iOS app:
1. Select search-fill Discover.
2. Enter a search phrase into the search bar.
3. Select Search.
To start a search on the Android app:
1. Select search-fill Discover.
2. Enter a search phrase into the search bar.
3. Select Search.
Looking for an expired listing?
If you're looking for a listing that has already ended, you can complete a search specifically for expired listings.
Search tips
These tips can help you find exactly what you’re looking for on Trade Me.
Find an exact phrase with quotes " ".
- Put words in quotation marks.
- If you search for "Bob the Builder", you will only find listings with that exact phrase.
Search for part of a word with an asterisk *.
- Put an asterisk at the end of a partial word.
- If you search for Tea cup*, you will find cup, cups, and cupboard.
Find either one of two words using OR.
- Put the word OR (in all capital letters) between two search terms.
- If you search for Canon OR Nikon, you will see results that have either Canon or Nikon.
Find one word, but not another, using NOT.
- Put the word NOT (in all capital letters) between two search terms. This will show you the first term but skip the second one.
- If you search for iPhone NOT SE, you will find listings for iPhones, but it will not show you anything about SE.
Find only an exact word using a plus sign +.
- Put a + right before a search term.
- If you search for +fish, you will only find listings that say fish. Normally, Trade Me will find similar words too (like fish and fishing), but the plus sign makes it exact.
Filter results
Results can be refined by:
- Location (including region and district)
- Category
- Price (selected categories only)
- Shipping
- Payment method
- Buy Now available
- Clearance items
- Condition (new or used)
Other filters are available to refine your search, depending on the category.

To filter results on the Trade Me website, select Refine.
To filter results on the iOS app, select Refine.
To filter results on the Android app, select Refine.
Sort results
You can sort results by:
- Best match
- Featured first
- Lowest/highest price
- Lowest/highest buy now
- Most bids
- Latest listings
- Closing soon
- Title (A–Z)
- Largest discount
Results are sorted by 'Best match’ by default.
To sort results on the Trade Me website, select Sort: Best match.
To sort results on the iOS app, select Sort: Best match.
To sort results on the Android app, select Sort: Best match.
