Apply for a success fee refund

Find out how to apply for a success fee refund online – if a trade doesn't work out.

When to apply

  • The buyer hasn't responded to your emails within two business days.
  • The buyer hasn't made payment within a week of the listing closing.
  • You and the buyer have both agreed to cancel the trade.

 

Refunds can be applied for within 40 days of the listing closing. For success fee refunds on listings that closed more than 40 days ago, get in touch with us below.

Success fees are refunded automatically when refunding via Ping.

 

How to apply

1. Select Sold from My Trade Me.
2. Select the listing.
3. Select refund of your success fee under 'If the sale falls through'.

On your sold listing page, navigate to 'Your item was sold' group. Then, navigate to 'Information, image' – 'If the sale falls through'. Select 'refund of your success fee, button' from list item 3.

4. Fill out the form and select Next.

3. Select Let us know under 'If the sale falls through...'.
4. Fill out the form and select Next.

Trades with a KP-12345 reference don't have this option yet – please contact us below if you need a success fee refund for one of these listings.

What happens next?

  • We'll email the buyer – and let you know the outcome within three days.
  • Granted refunds show in your Trade Me account right away.
  • If your refund is declined, but you feel it should be granted – get in touch below.


Once you've applied

  1. We send the buyer an email:
    – We'll let them know that you haven't heard from them.
    – Your phone number will be included – if you chose that option.
    – We'll ask them whether they'll complete the trade.

  2. They have three days to respond to us.

  3. Your fee is refunded automatically if:
    – They tell us they won't complete the trade.
    – We don't hear from them within the three days.
