Passkey troubleshooting
Find out what to do if you're having trouble setting up or using a passkey for multi-factor authentication (MFA) on Trade Me.
If you're having issues with your passkey, try these solutions.
Check your device and browser
Your passkey is stored on the device or password manager you used to set it up. If you’re using a different device or browser, it may not be available there.
Make sure you're using the same device and browser you used to set up the passkey, and that your password manager (like iCloud Keychain or Google Password Manager) is signed in and syncing.
Save your passkey to your device's native password manager
Choose your device's built-in password manager when you're prompted to save your passkey. This gives the most reliable experience. Find out more about each native password manager.
- iPhone or Mac: Set up iCloud Keychain
- Android: Get started with Google Password Manager
-
Windows: If you're using the Chrome browser, save your passkey to Google Password Manager. Otherwise, configure Windows Hello. If you're asked for a fingerprint, PIN, or face scan and haven't set one up before, enter your computer login password instead.
Bitwarden issue
There's a known issue with Bitwarden that can make passkeys unreliable on Trade Me. Choose a different password manager, like Google Password Manager or your device's native option, when you're prompted to save your passkey.
Remove and re-add your passkey
If you can’t access the device your passkey is saved to, you'll need to remove it and set up a new one.
- Log in to trademe.co.nz on your browser and verify using the one-time code sent to your registered email.
- Go to My Trade Me.
- Under 'Update my details', select Manage multi-factor authentication.
- Select your active authentication method (your old passkey).
- Select Remove.
- Select Continue to confirm.
You can then set up a new passkey on your current device.
Add a backup MFA method, like text message (WhatsApp or SMS), alongside your passkey to avoid this happening again.
