What your username is used for
Your username is public and appears:
- on your Trade Me profile
- with questions you ask on listings
- with feedback you leave about other members.
Picking a username
Usernames:
- can be up to 15 characters
- must only contain letters, numbers, full stops, underscores, and hyphens (sorry, no emojis).
To stay safe from scammers, don’t include personal information, like your full real name or the start of your email address in your username. Learn more about username scams.
How to change your username
You can change your username once every 30 days. You can only change your username on the Trade Me website, not the app.
To change your username:
- Log in to trademe.co.nz on your browser (Changing your username isn’t available in the iOS app or Android app).
- Go to My Trade Me.
- Under ‘Update My Details’, select Change username.
- Enter your username.
- Select Save.
