AML document request
Find out what to do if we send you an AML document request through First AML.
To comply with anti-money laundering (AML) laws, we may ask you to supply information about your Trade Me account, business, or trust using First AML.
How anti-money laundering (AML) applies to Trade Me
Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) is a regulatory system in place to uncover illegal funds disguised as legitimate income. It requires certain businesses, including Trade Me, to help make sure their business won’t be misused for money laundering or terrorism financing.
From 1 June 2025, Trade Me has to comply with AML regulations which means, in some circumstances, we need to know more about our members, their businesses, transacting behaviours and source of funds. This is often referred to as Customer Due Diligence (CDD)/ Know Your Customer checks (KYC).
Getting an AML document request
If we need more information about your Trade Me account, business, or trust you’ll get an email from our AML partner, First AML.
This email will guide you through the process, which involves identity verification and answering a few short questions about your Trade Me account activity. Businesses and trusts will need to provide other documents as required (for example, a certificate of incorporation, trust deed, beneficial owners, etc.)
We use the secure First AML website to collect information for AML purposes. We’ll never ask you to send AML information directly to us or submit it in another way.
Here are examples of the email. It will always come from an email address ending in @trademe.co.nz.

To supply your information, follow the Get started link in the email. This link opens the secure First AML website and guides you through the process.
