Multi-Factor Authentication
I haven't turned on this function so why am I receiving authentication codes over and over? Started today.
How can I turn this off when it hasn't been turned on?

Hi there. You are not alone. Other people are reporting they are getting it without turning it on. I have as well. Thankfully only once so far. To check that it is turned off refer to the help file. This is referenced at the top of this page as a sticky. Or this link:

Kia Ora All,
As a result of many MFA blocks without turning this feature on I had TM cookies applied to my email program and have had to block 3rd party. - Cheers.

Kia ora everyone, we will occasionally require additional authentication as part of keeping Trade Me a safe and trusted marketplace. You’ll need to complete the authentication using the code that was sent to your email address to log in. This should only happen in some instances (like when you log in on a new device for example). If you're still having trouble logging in, feel free to get in touch with the team over chat.

What a PITA. I haven't turned this on, it just started emailing me codes. I have followed the link provided above by Callum and followed the instructions to disable it. But, when I get to step 4. (Select Authenticator app, then Select Remove authenticator app authentication.). there is no "Remove authenticator app authentication" option. There is just three option to enable (Google, Microsoft or Authy).
If I just hit 'continue' it wants me to scan a QR code, which I have zero interest in doing or method of doing it, if I did....
I don't always have my emails running and now everytime I want to go on to TMe I then have to login to my email to get the darn code.
Is there an easy way to turn it off? TIA.

Kia Ora I,
That indicates to me you haven't turned MFA on therefore there isn't one to remove.
The code is meant to be entered once only, multiple MFA codes sent is usually due to logging in from another device or if you are consistently clearing your cookies, do you have any settings enabled to always wipe your cookies?
That said I believe there is an initial issue with the program as I had entered the code once myself, I use only the one device to access TradeMe & session cookies are not set to be auto cleared therefore I too wait in patience whilst TradeMe sort this issue.
I will not allow TradeMe cookies on my email program so if this is an issue TradeMe will have to resolve it. - Cheers.

Yes, I got this twice this morning. The other thing that needs improvement is the confirmation code email send as this says "You may have logged in from a new location or your password may be weak. For more on this, check out our help page." I could find no help page associated with the confirmation code?
The email also says "If you didn’t request this email, there’s nothing to worry about — you can safely ignore it." Ok, so I didn't request it but if I ignore it then I can't login.

Thanks S, Correct I have not enabled MFA, but still had to enter a code via email. I tried several times in succession following Callums link above and each time, I had to enter a code for that too. I only use the one laptop to access TMe and it is running Linux, with Firefox as the browser. Interestingly tonight when I logged on, I got straight in without the having to do the email code, so possibly it has been fixed?
Or maybe I'll have to enter a code before I'm allowed to leave.......

MFA Confirmation Codes are consistently coming up to verify your account still when logging into Community & Home Front page - I thought this issue had been resolved but No!
This List is after those reported above...

I got this for the first time today, as only logged out to refresh the chat which it was still stuck on last conversation weeks ago,
it had not refreshed to start a new chat, on Desktop, and only way for it to refresh is log out and back in again,
Same browser, same PC as always logging in on,
I went to above link Callum gave, now getting this, as it went to code box, and I tried to go back out but would not let me,
each time sent me a new code,
I do not want this, normally always logged in, if I am on my Tablet will be in trouble as only use web mail on that when I need to,
So you cannot actually opt out of it?, you will still get it occasionally?, as nothing to enable or disable it?, as I had not enabled it, as do not want it,

Kia Ora flossy63,
As you don't have the Remove authentication come up through Callum's Link it means you haven't turned MFA on.
The code is meant to be entered once only and remembered by the system - this does not Enable MFA, it is a security check TM require. - The info' I was given from staff is Multiple MFA codes sent is usually due to logging in from another device or if you are consistently clearing your cookies - However in my case I keep getting these codes randomly sent everytime, though after sharing my comment yesterday I didn't receive a code to Login today - Thank you TM.
My workaround is to close all the Login pages that come back with the code prompt to enter - open a new Login page and try logging in again which I succeed in being able to without entering the code after 2 - 4 attempts. - The last couple of weeks it has been when I've attempted to Login via Community first so I've gone to the Home page and second attempt to Login to the Home page has been successful. - Clearing device Browser cookies and cache has stopped this code request coming up for me in the past also, if you get really stuck with the code requests and can't bypass them.
If you enter the code once from an email request as the security check for TM you shouldn't be MFA enabled - the system should retain that Login like a registration though Yes! Logging in from a different device may require you to register that device with 1 Login code also.
To become MFA enabled, for those who want to, you do still then have to enable it through your Account details - Cheers.

Still having problems with this annoying 'feature' that I have not enabled. I was asked a question on a listing 3 minutes before the listing was due to close. Went to log into Trade Me to answer question and got the code request page. I waited 6 minutes for the code to get to my email address before I was able to log in. By that time my auction had closed....
Absolute waste of time. Trade Me, turn the bloody thing off. I don't want it.

Kia ora I, I've passed this on to the team, if you're still having this issue hop on to live chat and someone will have a look for you.
As Casey said we will occasionally require additional authentication as part of keeping Trade Me a safe and trusted marketplace. You’ll need to complete the authentication using the code that was sent to your email address to log in. This should only happen in some instances (like when you log in on a new device for example). MFA Confirmation Codes are consistently coming up to verify your account again when logging into Community & Home Front page - had a good 13 day break between verification codes mid month - The 7th attempt to sign in today was successful.
This list doesn't include any reported above.

Kia ora S, This should only happen in some instances (like when you log in on a new device for example). If you're regularly clearing your cookies or using incognito/other anonymisation software, you may be prompted to authenticate your log in more regularly.

Kia Ora Michelle,
I only have the 1 device to Login to TM - I don't clear session cookies - I was logged in today, I had to Logout to get to a New Chat window - I logged in again & got the code again though only the once, the 2nd login worked without the code. - I hadn't cleared any session cookies or closed TM down. - I have emailed all of this in before it is still happening.

Kia Ora Michelle,
TradeMe are locking Members out of being able to Login with this MFA system security step.
14 Attempts today - 11 Attempts yesterday - As you can see it's taken near half an hour just to Login this morning! - This is over the top! - This list below doesn't include any Attempts reported above.

Mōrena S, thank, I've passed this straight on to the team to look into again. I'll be in touch if I have an update. Let me know if it's still going on in a day or so.
