Antiques and collectables

Kia Ora Karen,
No! New Listings aren't prechecked before going Live unless the system picks up a high risk Listing & flags it automatically for a staff members preview before release.
There can literally be thousands of New Listings created in 1 day therefore a very high volume for manually checking However each Listing has a 'Community watch: Report this Listing' Link at the bottom of the Listing for Members to fill a form alerting staff to a problem they've encountered within, staff investigate and action these - Cheers.

Hi Karen. These days there are sellers with thousands and even 10s of thousands of listings. These aren't manually placed in categories by the seller either. They are automatically placed in the category by a listing tool. It's why you get these problems.
Keep Community Watching the items, and you can ask questions on the auctions as well in the hope the seller fixes it up themselves.
But yes, antiques and collectables has always been a problematic category. I sell new flags. Again, neither antique, or collectable, but the only flag category on Trade Me is there. So along with all the other flag sellers that's were I list them!

Antiques and Collectables is the most problematic category on T-Me, its to vague, but its also set up as a bit of a dumping ground, like Callum points out with flags, the same problem exists with Taxidermy for example.
Some people have funny ideas about what an "antique" is, so stuff ends up in this category, that shouldn't.
I guess to answer your question - No Trade Me staff don't actively monitor or confirm items loaded onto the page, if there is a problematic item listed, they are completly reliant on someone hitting the "community watch" button.
