Problems with buyer not making payment.
AnsweredI probably rather stupidly let a buyer pick up without paying immediately. They swore they would pay a couple of hours later by afterpay, but payment hasn't been received

Hi Shane. A lesson always best learnt the hard way. Many have been there. How long has it been?
You can continue to email/call/text the buyer to ask when the payment will be made. You can leave feedback (maybe neutral for now, you can change it either way later) and ask the buyer there when they will be making payment for the item them took. You can report the item as unpaid via the success fee refund system on here. This will prompt an automatic email from Trade Me to the buyer. Finally you can contact Trade Me who maybe able to give them a nudge on your behalf.

Perhaps a painful lesson learnt. While I have a few regular customers who I know and trust have goods before payment, in other cases would never let goods go before payment. How long has it been since they picked up? It maybe that they genuinly forgot and not looked at any email reminder you sent them, always start from the positive side rather than assume they are the bad bay. Keep at them to pay. If they do not pay let them know if payment not received by a certain date and time , that you will place red feedback stating their facts and noting their dishonesty. If you place red feedback, do not call them a thief (even though they maybe) as you are only officially a thief after found guilty in court, and so TM will regard it as defamatory and likely remove the feedback. You can however say that you believe them to be very dishonest (as that is your opinion, not a legal position)

It's only been one day, this happened yesterday. I did originally tell them that payment was required first, before they could pick up, then I decided to trust them, despite being a new trader with no feedback, which was stupid really. The weird thing is that someone else tried this last week (also a brand new account), on the same auction and I refused to sell to them. Am wondering if it's maybe the same new trader, but with a different email and TradeMe account?? I could be wrong and they'll pay today. I did know better, and have been on TradeMe for years, have never done this before and won't be again! At least I got an automatic success fee refund, and I will be leaving feedback, but will hold back on that, even though they promised me they would pay by afterpay last night (which was a few hours after pick up).

I have also reported this to TradeMe, but doubt there's much they can really do, except maybe close their account.

Kia Ora Shane,
Sorry to read you're in limbo with that Trade,
As you have received your Success Fee refund this would suggest the account may not be a legitimate New account - with legitimate accounts TradeMe will follow up with your Buyer requesting them to complete payment, therefore your refund may not be as prompt whilst they allow your Buyer approx. 3 days to respond. - Have you also passed onto TM the account details of the first New account Member who attempted this last week? - this is a crucial step in assisting TM get a step ahead of any stray rouge players in the platform.
Is there any chance you have this Member's contact phone number? When exchanging goods in a Pick up situation a contact phone number is also good to request in the case any payments do go astray/are reversed etc. Plus this provides further details should a Police investigation ensue - All the Best - Cheers.

I got a success fee refund last week as well, so TradeMe should know about that trader too. I don't have the phone number of this latest trader, just email. Hopefully, they will pay, the trade was only last night, so still holding out some hope... (BTW, have tried to access the details of the trader from last week, but nothing will come up, looks like their account has been removed...).
