Buyers with sporadic communication
AnsweredIs 5 days fair on my part for a buyer to pick up and pay for the auction they have won? In my payment instructions I have written to be completed in 5 days. I have not had any issues with this at all until now! This buyer started off my emailing me straight away asking when to pick up , I replied and didn't hear back so I emailed later the next night. He replied with I am waiting to empty my trailer so in a couple of days, I said that's fine. Couple days later haven't heard from him so I sent another email. This is now 7 days so I emailed and asked did he still want it and if I hadn't heard , I was going to re list. This prompted a reply with yes he did still waiting on trailer.I emailed back and asked would Saturday suit. Again no reply so I have emailed again today. I might add this is two auctions he has won and hasn't paid .When looking at his feedback he has been collecting and paying for other auctions. I'm at a loss on what to do as I have not dealt with a trader like this before.

Hi Penny. Sounds like you have set a clear deadline there so yes, I think it is fair on your part to cancel the trade if you want to.
You should probably first email a final ultimatum explaining clearly and exactly what you will doing.
"Unless item xxxx is collected by (time) on (date) then this trade is considered cancelled and will be relisted or offered to others."
Personally I do generally allow larger items that require people to organise trailers etc a bit more leeway. I guess the other thing to consider is if it's something that you know will sell easy again or if you are going to end up still stuck with it for a while if you cancel the trade this time around.

Thanks so much for your quick reply.
By the sound of it the buyer is waiting for a free trailer as the hiring of this may exceed the price of both auctions.0 -
I hate pickups for this very reason!!! I put three days on mine and think that's perfectly adequate with modern technology there is no reason why payments communication etc. can't be made quickly.
If they know there is going to be a delay in collecting, then they should be asking before purchase to make sure it's going to be ok.
Putting a timeline on things to be wrapped up also may be due to reasons like heading away on holiday moving etc, i wish people would stop thinking its ok to drag things out!

When I had Pickups, it was must be completed/picked up within 10days,
as when I listed and it closed, it allowed 2 weekends to get it sorted,
as people are too busy or working during the week,
so if a big item, ample time to organize trailer etc.

We tend to allow them 2 weekends as well, and then on the Second I give up emailling them and put through a Success fee refund request, you can select "Buyer has not made contact" this triggers an auto email form trade me asking them if they want to complete the trade or not. After 3 days if they have not responded to that message, then you get refunded.
The next step after that is to leave a red face feedback - but very black and white. "Buyer won auction on XX/XX/XXXX, they promised pick-up on XXth , they didn't collect, I mailed again on XXth, they again said they would collect and failed, no response from contact request from T-Me, Item has been relisted.
If it were me I would be starting the process on Sunday night, you cant hold things forever.
