Courier Fees for small items
AnsweredI know I am probably dreaming but with the economy being so hard for many people the fees you are charged for courier on rural is just almost too much to cope with. Rural is $12 atm with NZ post for smallest package & to pay a percentage of that to fees when you need the entire amount to actually send to someone is crippling. Can TM just at least ease the burden of this? It's too hard man. I almost feel like putting on each auction that I cannot send rurally but I get so many rural buyers and its starting to really financially hurt. They are the ones also suffering & I am sure many people have to inflate their post costs for rural to cover the big chunk of $ sellers have to spend just to be able to send to them so how much will a rural person have to pay if that is the case? $15 for one small item for courier? I have not done this yet & taken the hit but that hit is pretty hefty & starting to take a toll.

Dee, have you tried Pass the Parcel for smaller items? You can send an A4 bag or smaller if you use your own bag for $7.80 rural same island or $8.10 rural interisland. Prices are going up Oct 2nd to $8.90 and $9.15.

No, you don't use them from within Trademe, but if you go to the pass the parcel website you can link your Trademe sold page there, so it behaves just like the Trademe booking system. It also emails the tracking link to buyers automatically and puts the tracking on the buyers won items page, so behaves just like BAC. In fact, Pass the parcel was Trademe's first integrated courier back in 2010 before their current BAC began.

Not sure how you do labelling now, but Pass the parcel can integrate with your printer, or you can download the courier label PDF and print in A4 or what I do is screengrab the barcode label part and paste that to my std 6x4 label so it looks like most other courier labels.

Ah okay. I dont have a printer and they always seem rather overwhelming to me to figure out but maybe I can look into that. Im actually thinking about leaving TM in the near future anyway but I will have a look into this just in case, thank you so much for your time & help!

Dee, Pass The Parcel are great they will supply you with free satchels in small, medium or large for sending your items and they come with the tracking label already attached. If you are wanting to send a box rather than a satchel their box rates are very good they have very simple to understand pricing and a range of sending options see the screenshot below. During the booking process you can choose to have the courier pick up your package which is a free service or you can drop it off at a courier depot or agent. Their rural surcharge is currently only $2.50 increasing to $3.15 on 2nd October which is cheaper than NZ Post. To use Pass The Parcel you do need to register via their website and have a credit card to pay for the shipping online but it’s very easy. I highly recommend them.

Remember SJ the bags are not free. eg if you use your own small bag you can send it as the A4 bag rate $5.65 for example same island, vs their own small bag for $6.35. Considering my average bag cost is just over 4c, all of those can add up.

Dee- Trademe are not interested in making costs cheaper for members. Quite the opposite, they are trying to increase their income to the max so they can sell off the site to a buyer at max profit
