Community Watch - How to Make a Great Report
PinnedWe want to make sure everyone using Trade Me has a great experience when they buy or sell. Community Watch is the best way to notify us if a listing isn’t quite right. We have a specialist team who review the reports, and will take appropriate action behind the scenes. It's best to file one report per seller with all of the info in one report - if there are listings from different sellers, they can be reported separately. If you file multiple complaints on a listing, or on multiple listings from one seller, this can slow down our team from getting to your complaint.
In order for us to make the most of your complaint, we need as much information as possible. It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3!
-
Choosing the right complaint subject
It’s important to let us know exactly what the issue is with the listing you’re reporting, so we know what to keep an eye out for. You can let us know if:
- It shouldn’t be listed (or the listing should be withdrawn)
- The way it's listed is incorrect
- Someone’s using the Q&A inappropriately
- The seller is trying to avoid paying the right fees
- There are intellectual property concerns (counterfeit items, breach of trademark, etc.)
- It’s a face mask that’s not in line with our mask policy
If your complaint doesn’t neatly fit into the above, you can choose the ‘something else’ option. When you do this, it’s particularly important to include as much information as possible.
-
Give us all the details!
Because we can’t all be industry experts about the 8 million listings on the site at any given time, we appreciate a helping hand from those who are. It’s important for us that you point out exactly where the issue is and why it’s a problem. Don’t be afraid to spell it out for us!
For example, if a listing is in the wrong category, it’s really helpful to let us know which category it should be in.
Or, if you think an item is a counterfeit product, don’t forget to add why you think that. Providing us with your source of information is a great way to do that. -
Attach any supporting evidence
Our team can only take action based on the evidence they can see. That’s why we need as much info from you as possible, regardless of which complaint subject you’ve chosen.
Most of the time, the evidence will be in the listing itself. Sometimes though, it’s not.
For example, if a car is listed on the site, and the seller has told you it’s been sold already. From our end, we have no way of telling the item isn’t up for grabs anymore – unless the seller mentions this in the description or Q&A themselves. If you’ve emailed or texted them, include a screenshot of your conversation with them so we can see if they’ve said it’s no longer available.
Here are some examples of great reports
Example 1
This report has the right options selected, and gives further detail about what specifically isn’t right about the listing. Nice!
Example 2
This report specifies why this isn’t the right category for the item that’s listed. Ka pai!
Here are some examples of not so great reports
Example 1
This one needs a bit of love. This report doesn’t give any information about what’s wrong with the listing or seller. We can’t do anything with this one.
Example 2
This is a well-detailed report, but the seller has no links to contact them, it is listed in the right spot, and is selling their parts through the site. All is good!
Example 3
Without any information or reasons why the item listed could be counterfeit, we don't have a lot to go on with this report.
So with these points in mind...
Go forth, make some great reports, and help us to help you!

Oh WoW! Gary - That sounds familiar to the Live Chat bot window Auto Refreshing on me everytime! - Reporting since the program was first implemented, both online in Post & direct emails - In all these months No change! - I'm wondering if there's a connection with your Community watch Auto Refreshing when entering more info'? - Perhaps there's a common trigger between both in the program(s)?
From 65,000 listings - 72,000 now with contact phone number in all those Listings - again WoW! - All those 'Out of TM' Sales taking place!
The sheer volume of free hours input to help and we have the WoW! Trifactor and I'm so aware your time well surpasses mine - Much Respect to you! - Cheers.

It seems you've found the Diamond in the rough regarding the Community watch Auto Refreshing - Testing from my end the key trigger Auto Refreshing the page is Selecting "The goods are counterfeit" - which of course one only gets to this selection through choosing "There are intellectual property concerns" - However Selecting any other menu item from there doesn't seem to Auto Refresh the page for me, it is only the 1 "The goods are counterfeit" which is Auto Refreshing when I click into the "Tell us more" box. - Cheers.

Yes, that's correct. Had to use the same choices again this morning as another new member selling the same fake keys popped up, but their listings are all gone now.

Thanks Gary, the problem you had when reporting these listings for counterfeit goods through Community watch is a known bug. I've also passed on to the team that this is still happening.

I placed a bit and was leading the auction
Only had 25 mins leafy and then the owner removed my bid as it was only up to $100
And he was wanting over $1000

Can you contact me0 -
S Community SuperuserKia Ora Clayton,Sorry to read that happened to you,Has the item been Relisted? Were there any other Bids which had met the Reserve price that were also removed or are you the only Bidder?Sellers are allowed to remove bids for various reasons including if there are errors within the Listing or pricing itself which may mislead Buyers, if the item got damaged, broke, etc. - If the item has been Relisted as was with no change to the Description or new photo('s) added showing any flaws or a corrected price adjustment then Yes! removing bids within 25mins of the listing closing time where the Reserve has been met though has not met the Seller's Buy Now asking price does look very suspect and is very dishonest manipulation which is in breach of Seller Trading Policies T&C's clause 4.4 which states -You must sell to the highest bidder if the reserve price is met, - and is well worth reporting to TradeMe staff through their "Live Chat" facility enabling them a full investigation of the Seller's account, behaviour, what has happened here and to take any necessary action/warnings required. If you select the Contact us Link at the very bottom of any TradeMe page the Chat Tab will Pop up in blue at the bottom right of your landing page screen. The Live Chat manned hours weekdays are 9:30:am - 5:00pm and weekends 9:30am - 4:pm- All the Best.0

Read comments. Not Elite Pioneer
Lexus is not a Toyota.
CZ is not Diamond
Any why do some traders have numerous items from the same era, same manufacturer, same range but each item is top of the range/line when its as per the orignal brochures, mediocre at best. The concerning bit is the pricing. Can we charge out for creative writing aka deception that is obvious as it is duplicated in each item. Not reflecting global market nor it is true to the item.
Good condition : ok
Sounds great: sweet
Top of the range: never
Blow the modern examples to the dust for the money: how it goes again logic and the prices that are in many cases above original rrp.0 -
How about making it easy and straight forward to report a lising. Stop the scrolls and scrolls of self help information to read through and have an actual link to file reports easily visible ans accessible.

Alison, at the bottom of every live listing there is a link to do this already while you are already on the page of the listing.

On 19 May 2024 I bought an item on T/m. It was listed as a 'Louis Vuitton bulldog bag charm.' I paid $129.45 for the item including $6.50 for shipping. Item never arrived. I gave the correct address details. It was mailed by the seller with Post Haste. Post Haste have admitted non-delivery was their fault and I am STILL waiting for them to refund the money to me. I am 86 years old, a pensioner, and this was a huge purchase for me. I want your advice as to how to get Post Haste to refund me. Maybe hearing from you would help my situation because they are ignoring me. Thanks in advance for your help.
I have been buying on trademe for years and this is the first time I have had a problem. Please help.

Helen, that is not your problem to chase a refund its the sellers problem, they need to refund you and then they need to take it up with post haste - and you should remove your address details as this is just a community forum :)

Helen, you should edit your post to remove your personal details by clicking the small cog icon to the right of your post. It's both not allowed to post that sort of information plus it can make it easier for people to scam you.
Usually it's the seller that initiates a claim with the courier company as they are the ones that directly paid them for the service. Have you submitted a claim to Poste Haste? Has the seller been helping you with this process?

I need to report a seller that has not been honest about our trade or send me the item but can't find out how to report her as a fraud to warn off other buyers as she has just listed a lot of stuff to sell.

Joanne, it's not allowed to post other members details here. The best thing to do is to use the Dispute resolution link in the auction you won, and also to report one of their current listings to Trademe using the Community Watch link on any of their current listed items. You should also place feedback if all avenues to contact the seller have failed to resolve the problem.

It was back in August, the trade and all the information has gone off My TM so have no other options but to post here!
