Cant add a start price, only Buy Now on listings
Is anyone else having an issue with the options with listing an item?
I can only add a Buy Now price, the other options are greyed out. Why?

Hi Mark. Thanks for posting. You should be able to enter a start price with a Buy Now, and once you've entered the start price, the grey-out on the 'Reserve' box will disappear.
Also check that you have the quantity set to 1. Multiple quantities have to be By Now only listings.-7 -
Thanks for the reply. I have done exactly as you described but to no avail. It's still greyed out.
Cheers

Hi Crisy, sorry to read that. Can you check that you haven't also got a specified reserve that's higher than the Buy Now? If you do, you will need to adjust that.
If you haven't and this is still happening, clear your cookies or have a go on a different browser to see if that makes a difference. Let me know you get on.
Anyone else running into this?

I found (with TMs help) that I had caused my issue by putting a Buy Now (and forgetting to add a Start Price) and then went live with the listing. Once the listing is live you can not change or add anything to the price boxes via the edit system.
I had to withdraw the listings and start again. WHY on earth can't one just go to edit and add what's required without having to start the process all over again. Its a very strange system.

Hi Mark, the reason for that is because when you only have a Buy Now price and nothing else, it runs as a Buy Now only or multiple quantity listing which is entirely different from an auction where bids are accepted. Editing these types of listings is different from standard auctions where generally you can make changes before the bidding starts.
Crisy: You can have a start price, a specified reserve or both - and each of those scenarios can include a Buy Now price too. The Buy Now needs to be the same as or higher than the reserve if you are having a specified reserve rather than just a start price.

Hi Crisy, this does appear to be a bug on the Trade Me apps but you shouldn't get an error message when trying to start a listing from the desktop site with the same start and buy now price. This has been fixed on the iOS app and the android app is being looked into. If you find you are getting the error message on the desktop, posting a screenshot would be very helpful

Hi, I dont know if this is the fix for you but I was having the same issue/s and found that typing in the start price first BEFORE the buy now sorted the problem for me. When you are setting up your auction and you get to the pricing page the buy now text field is first in line which kinda suggests that you fill that in first ( if you are going to apply one ) and I discovered after trying several mock auctions that this was the problem. I have had no issues since. Why TM doesnt simply change the order of the text fields on the pricing page is the real question. I hope helps.

In fact Denise, Trademe did change the order of the fields on the selling page. On the std site it has always been Start, Reserve, Buy Now, in that order. Trademe changed it from day one on the new site to be Buy Now first, presumably to encourage people to list Buy Now only listings, rather than bidding auctions.

Hi Gary, when I said "Why TM doesnt simply change the order of the text fields on the pricing page is the real question" I meant from current back to the original order. I cant know if the problem I encountered is the same for everyone or all platforms, I just know that this happened time after time for me when listing from my desktop pc, and was fixed when I entered the start price first. It is silly that once you have entered a buy now price and move on to the next price fields, then decide to edit or remove the buy now that you cant especially given that at this point you haven't even posted the auction.

This is incredibly frustrating that you can't edit the auction to add a start price. I ADDED a start price (didn't forget it) but it was removed when I changed the quantity then changed it back. There's no 'Summary' page to check everything before the starting the auction so it's really bad UI. Thankfully the listing fee was refunded and there's no withdrawal fee within the first hour so I just had to start a new auction.

I am having the same issue. There is no option to put in a start price anywhere. Only option to do a live auction or put a buy now price but it wont let me continue because there is nowhere to put a start price.

Hi Carlie, I can see that you started a listing earlier today so I'm hoping this is the one you were trying to do.
If not, have another go from a desktop or your mobile browser if you were using the app.0 -
Having the same problem, tried the app and the PC , Start Price greyed out on the PC and 'Run an auction' not selectable on the App, why? Simply want to set a no reserve start price but cant , there are no bids.

Once you have started a listing Wayne with the Buy Now only price, you can't change that to an auction with start - reserve - Buy Now. What you have to do is wait till it closes and edit the pricing as you relist. You can speed this up by changing the end time of the current listing so it ends sooner., so you can correct and relist sooner.

this is just another way trade me likes to make money on their already stupidly high fees. its not about protecting the buyer. advise not to use trade me at all as their whole system is a joke compared to what it was, auctions constantly run in the wrong catagory and stores running bots and copies of the same listing to gain more exposure, honestly just shut it down as its never going to be as good as it was.

I want to have a start price and it won't allow me. This is the third time it has done this. I had to withdraw the others because of this. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kia Ora Annie,
Listing types cannot be changed due to the associated fees per different sales methods chosen - you need to wait for the listing to close enabling you to change on relisting Or withdraw the Listing to create a new listing in the correct type you would like, as you have been doing.
Gary-NZStocked explains that in his Comment above and here https://help.trademe.co.nz/hc/en-us/community/posts/4426484013965/comments/9620479437465
