Hi Amelia, great question! There are no plans at the moment to include crypto currency as a payment method but we're certainly interested to hear members' thoughts about this.

Defi is a key part of the overall offering delivered by most of the established crypto companies. Buying an selling all manner of products using crypto currency without withdrawing to fiat is partly what is driving the exponential growth of the industry. Its meant that some large financial institutions (Mastercard, Paypl and Visa to name a few) are in the process of adopting crypto currencies as accepted forms of payment. Defi or decentralised finance and the reliability and security of the blockchain technology is what is helping to drive the mass adoption. Now is great time to be having this conversation

You can just add BTC or whatever to your custom payment options if you want to accept it as payment. Gresham's law suggests no one will use it to pay you though.
The nonsensical/misinformed energy FUD etc is going to come in strong this year though, in an attempt to hijack the regulators and lock the plebs out so the bankers can front-run them. I doubt TradeMe would want (or be able) to stand up to that level of political heat.

Am aware of an auction where it has occurred, was offered as a question and seller agreed and was winner . Unsure of final outcome as was only viewed. Sure the guy is sorry now as bc is less than half now.

Adding a payment option like Algorand is more sensible as you can send a P2P payment via the Pera Wallet. BTC takes too long to settle at the transaction layer. I am making Algorand available for certain trades on TradeMe but nobody yet has taken up on the offer. 2024-25 more likely as the whole market should go through an upswing of interest due to ETF activity around the world.

Responsible companies seem to be leaving crypto currencies, rather than adding them. Most famously is probably Tesla. There are some issues with it that I can see. Firstly there is the purely speculative nature of crypto. A lot of people are likely to get burnt. When you look at with a critical eye, you could say it is basically a ponzi scheme. It is also often linked to criminality and money laundrying because of the anonymous nature of it. Then you need to look at the large energy costs that are expended mining it. Would this energy be better spent elsewhere in an energy concious world? Taxing some crypto transactions can also be problematic because of it's anonymous nature. How does a government dip it's finger into the pie?
