AnsweredHi all. If a buyer messages me through Trademe where do we see those messages on desktop site? I can see them on mobile app but unsure where they show on desktop? Thanks.

Heimo, Messages are only available if both the buyer and seller are using the Trademe app. If you never use or have the App, then buyers will not be able to message you.
All the info here.

Another one of trade Me bright ideas that doesn't work, I got no notification on receiving a message, wow, brilliant, the old system of "ask a questions' would email the Seller, okay not quite the same scenario but the idea is of notification is.
About time Trade Me started converting/fixing one thing at a time rather than the Microsoft philosophy of let make a whole lot of platforms that don't work !!! and we won't even tell you about it.
Great Stuff Trade Me7 -
and what do I do if a buyer messages me on this new system, but having only a PC, I never receive those???
Buyers aren't aware that some people will never get their messages.

Messages are only available on the app. Wow. It's so simple to integrate into the desktop site. Why not wait with launching it until it works on both?

How about you channel some of those exorbitant trademe fee's toward allowing pc users to have the same access to the site as phone users? - I would have thought it was an obvious thing for a business model!?!

How do you delete the messages when they are old?

Oh ok I did wonder that, thank you for your reply :)

Kia Ora Timothy,
Now that is annoying!
Have you cleared your Device cache & cookies? - You can try exiting the App altogether before closing it down to see if you can open it when you come back up and if none of those work Delete the App & reinstall it - If you still have no joy contact TradeMe staff through "Live Chat" for assistance. - Cheers.

In all honesty I have tried all of that and have pretty much given up. Its really only an issue within the app so I will probably just delete the app and use the desktop version through the browser.....

Kia Ora James,
Do you have your mobile number in your Payment Instructions which are sent to the Buyer by any chance?
You can double check that through the instruction path as below...
On the Desktop site through Edit payment instructions - Cheers.

Kia Ora James,
I am a Member just like you, I am Not TradeMe Staff - We are Not Supervisors - The word is Super User - We did Not ask for this Badge - Badges were removed from all Members last year - this reappearance has come as much of a suprise to me!
As a fellow Member I am trying to help you by working out how the other Member has access to your phone number when you Don't have the App on your mobile - this is the concern! - I am Not comparing or justifying anything here - Out of concern I'm trying to Help you work this out!

Messaging is Only available if the Buyer and Seller are both using the Trade Me app (v108.2 or later). - If the Other Member is Messaging you when you Don't have the App how else are they getting your number? - Do you have your mobile number in your Listing(s)? - Do you have your mobile number in your Profile?

The messages system is only for mobiles using the Apps.

Yeah the 'official comment' (does that mean accepted answer?) in this thread is wrong. If you uninstall the app then buyers can still message you through the app and you have no way of knowing about it.

@S I will check. But thats beside the point... Even if I did people would still try and message me through the app then proceed to complain via text that I didn't reply to their messages. Why are community supervisors and staff defending this broken messaging system? Anyone with half a brain can tell you that it doesn't make sense. Read all the replies to the "messaging" related threads.
If you're trying to imply that communicating via phone (text or calls) is no different to using the messaging app you would be wrong because the app doesn't always send notifications and sometimes takes ages to load. It's quite a taxing app. You can hardly compare the Trademe messaging to text messages.
