The seller has absolute responsibility.
In fact if you purchased from an "in-trade" seller, it's law. They need to get the item to you. Saying "not my problem, it's the courier" doesn't work in the eyes of the law.
But I guess this was just a private sale so the legal framework doesn't apply so much. Even so it still rests on the seller. Trade Me considers that the seller has obligations here. Even if you are buying from a non business seller. If your item hasn't arrived in the timeframe it was expected to arrive consider opening a Dispute. It could spur the seller into taking his/her responsibilities a bit more seriously.

I think that once the bujyer has the shipping number they should track it themselves

Callum.
I actually opened a Dispute and the seller forwarded the dispute email to me getting annoyed.
I told him everything thet it hadnt been picked up from the post office and the tracking number wasnt worlong and all he could sag was that it wasnt his problem and hes done everything on his end.
I guess i need to let things sort things out with trade me0 -

Yes, just let the disputes process wind it's way through. It can take quite a while though so don't despair if nothing seems to be happening.
Don't forget though that if this is a standard economy post tracked item it's very likely it won't get further scans. You don't get all the in-between scans like you do with courier items. It will get a handover or pick up scan at the post office, then the next (and final) scan will be a delivery scan. That can happen many days later. Quite a few people are caught out by that.

NzPost hasnt even given it one scan yet. According to them its still sitting at there shop waiting on being picked up.
Thats why im annoyed at the seller he hasnt actually inquired to why its not been picked up
And this was Thursday 10th 20220 -
Rachel, to answer your question - YES absolutely the seller is responsible. They have the contract with NZ post and they are required to get it to you.
I have noticed recently that a few parcels I sent are "stuck" at the post shop for days (trackng states ready for pick up), and then all of a sudden its updated and then delivered shortly. If it was 10th, I wouldnt be panicing just yet. Its probably still making its way.

If you are saying that it was the 10th of November, then that is not that long at all, give them a bit more of a chance, remembering that the 12th and 13th are weekends, and if your seller is Canterbury based, the 11th was a public Holiday as well.
Far to soon to be starting the disputes process.
Unless you mean it was 10th October, then by all means start a dispute.

I sold something and it got stuck at "Collected from sender" for weeks, I dropped the parcel at the post shop. When the buyer asked me, I made an enquiry with NZ Post. I was told it's highly likely the parcel has got into the normal mail system (instead of courier) by mistake (I think it's because it's a very small and thin parcel). But it got delivered eventually.
I personally believe the seller is responsible until the buyer received the parcel physically. Even when the status is "Delivered" and the buyer claims the parcel hasn't been received, I think the seller is still the one who should check with the courier on what happened.
