Trade Me malfunctioned and actioned autobids against myself
AnsweredI was unable to contact trademe directly, i.e., by email or to converse with an actual person.
I had an auction: P239950071, and I tried to set up an autobid. The first bid was an autobid, but for the initial amount. For the second I did an autobid for an extra $50. Off its own bat trademe outbid (on my behalf!!!) my original bid by $40, which is where the auction closed - just two bids, both by me.
I am not impressed, as there is either some weasel wording in the fine print which allows this to happen (hasn't happened to me before). Or there was a malfunction. Either way, I feel that I was overcharged.

Hi Shayne. This is NOT a malfunction. It is explained in the help file. Basically someone else bid the same as your autobid max. Because yours was placed first it immediately jumped to your maximum.
