shipping cost variation
I put in the dimensions of a parcel prior to listing so shipping quotes were put on the listing. I have now booked a Trade Me courier and the shipping costs are much more. The label on the parcel also says 11 kg when the item weight is 2.5 kg and therefore in the category of 0-3kg weight. I don't know why there is such a big difference in price. I have asked the buyer if he will split the extra cost with me - I don't know if this is the correct thing to do or should I bear the full amount of the extra cost. TradeMe says the shipping with the listing is only an estimate but the actual cost is way out. I am unhappy and I think the purchaser will be unhappy too. Does anyone have similar experiences and know what to do in this situation?

Im guessing the parcel was quite large volumetrically and in these cases, even though the weight is low, they calculate a volumetric weight whch is im guessing the 11kg you have printed on the ticket. However that pricing should have come out on your original calculation, Is it possible that the original shipping price was based on urban delivery and you are sending to rural so has extra charge. Or possibly on either your original calculation, or final calculation for shipping costs, did you input an incorrect figure leasing to the variation between costs?

Thanks for your ideas and input. I think the prices are based on volume and weight and I definitely inputted correct dimensions for the listing. It is not a rural delivery. Trade me does say that the listing shipping quotes are estimates but I can’t understand why there would be such a hike in price when actually booking the courier. It should be the same as the estimate if the dimension and weight remain the same. But there is no way to contact Trade Me and ask about it.

Most likely explanation is you made a typo, selected a different product (bag vs box), or a different carrier (NZ Post vs Aramex).
If you post the dimensions, weight, source city and destination city I can see what the shipping thing results for me.

The only option that came up for me was NZ Post. Aramex wasn’t an option unless there is a button I don’t know about. Next time I will pay more attention. Thanks for input.

Happens regularly. I quote based on what was showing at the time of listing, or after sale. Go to book and the price is much higher.
Last night i did a quote for Aramex based on what came up. Go to book it and tonight Aramex is no longer an option
Just the more expensive NZ Post0 -
Phew. Thought I was going nuts so Thankyou for letting me know that it is really an issue with the system. But there seems to be no way of raising it with Trade Me or is there a way of doing so that you are aware of?
