What if my buyer has a rural address but doesn't choose the rural shipping option
Hello!
I'm a very very new seller on TradeMe, still very much learning about how the site works and such. My number one question is that I really want to be able to use Ping and have read that you can't use the option 'to be arranged' when it comes to shipping. I'd like to use Ping, but I'm on edge about using the 'specific shipping costs' as I'm scared that the buyer may choose to click for non-rural delivery when they have a VERY rural address.
Any clarification or direction on how to remedy this paranoia is appreciated, thank you!

Hi Maddie. In that case you just email the buyer and explain they need to pay the additional cost. In fact I have a cut 'n' paste for this situation, as it occurs fairly regularly for me. I do sell a lot of items though.

Hi There!
Unfortunately you haven't paid the correct Rural Delivery courier cost. You have 2 options before I can send your item
1. Pay the additional $4.00 for Rural Delivery
2. Provide me with a non RD address.I can't send your item until you reply.
Thanks"

Hi Callum!
Thank you so much for your quick reply!
If the buyer refuses to pay for said additional, would it be the best course of action to refund the buyer? What would be the additional steps here?
Thanks again!

Kia Ora Maddie,
This issue of the Buyer selecting Urban when their address is Rural is a frequent issue visited in the Community forum - Basically it comes down to your couriers urban vs rural zones - some urban address's appear rural with certain couriers though not others and equally some rural address appear as urban with some couriers though not others which causes alot of confusion. - Naturally you will get the ones who try to evade paying by Rural also.
Really if your Buyer's address shows rural and they have paid urban cost it's a matter of providing them a screenshot of the courier's fee for their address and asking them to pay the extra for rural shipping or provide you with an urban address to send the goods to.
Ping can be used without stating a shipping price - in these instances a Buyer may ask for a shipping quote through the Q&A section following with a request for you to add the shipping to the Listing prior to it closing. - In the event the Listing is purchased without shipping being added prior to purchase the Buyer can make a manual deposit or Internet transfer of the shipping cost Or you can set the Buyer up a Ping payment Listing for the shipping amount to choose Or you can create a New Ping payment Listing inclusive of the shipping cost for the Buyer to purchase and refund them their first Listing purchase - in the case of refunding a Listing all Success fees are returned to your TradeMe account automatically. - Thus being said it is far easier and less work to include the shipping cost in your Listings where you allow payment by Ping.
If your Buyer refuses to Pay the extra shipping cost you are within rights to cancel the Trade though not until day 8 of the Listing closing unless both you and your Buyer are in agreement to cancel the Trade prior. - TradeMe allow Buyers 7 days to complete payment in the first instance. - Cheers.

Yes, you would refund the buyer, request your success fees back, and relist the item. I can't recall ever getting a buyer refusing to either pay or provide an alternative address though. So it's pretty unlikely to happen in my experience.

There seems to be two problems. Unless I've missed something you can't show both Aramex and NZ Post delivery charges, and Aramex charges much higher rates for some rural properties that NZ Post doesn't class as RD. The second problem is that Trademe sends them the cost of non-rural delivery automatically if they don't have their address loaded. Some rural buyers pay that and send a delivery address that doesn't have a rural delivery code, hoping they will get away with it. Just got another trying it on today. Trademe needs to improve the app so that buyers seeking delivery need to enter their address online before the delivery cost is sent and to have more flexibility to show a range of options. Problem solved.
