Buyer hasn't collected purchase after 3 weeks
Sold a large item (2m long, a pain to have sitting around). Had lots of difficulty getting any response from buyer (who has about 10% negative feedback). Eventually got paid after about 10 days. 25 days after the sale the item hasn't been uplifted, in spite of several reminders. I've threatened to chuck it out if it isn't collected today in order to bring it to an end. Is this reasonable?

Kia Ora Robert,
Sorry to read your in Limbo with pick up,
As your Buyer has paid for the item it is clear they do want it - Do you know why there is a delay in Pick up, have they come back to you with an explanation?
If you chuck the piece you will have to refund your Buyer as they are the current owner having paid for the item. What you can do is give them a weeks notice notifying them 'after which storage fees will be charged.' - Cheers.

The last response was he was going to get his brother to pick it up but hasn’t responded to further messages for some time. I will tell him he will be paying storage fees of $10 per week.

Totally agree with your sentiments. Having had a similar problem, all my auctions now state that if not collected within 5 days of pickup instructions being sent, item is left at their risk. Generally give another 3 days and then advise will be donated to local Op shop if not collected by particular date (and thank them for the donation). As long as you are up front in the auction i see no problem with strict rules. After all we are not FB market place ;)

All my auctions have terms and conditions in them which state that if an item is not picked up by the 6 weeks where it expires from my sold items list they forfeit the item and payment as im not a storage unit.
It never ceases to amaze me the amount of stuff that gets paid for and not picked up or the buyer never sends their address through, and i always send follow up emails on both,i once had someone email me 10 months later saying they want to pickup their $20 item and they werent happy with me saying its long gone,im not a storage unit and storage costs far outweighed item value months ago

Wow, 6 weeks is quite generous. I sent the buyer a message saying he was going to be charged storage after a final date. That got him motivated and he collected it the day after the final date. Needless to say he got a red face. I have added something to my payment instructions now
