Glitch? Auto-send payment instruction sometimes fails
I have the "auto-send payment instructions" option ticked on all my listings. A couple of times recently, buyers have contacted me to say they hadn't arrived, and that they weren't in their spam box. Just happened to me as a buyer for the first time - seller insists the box was ticked but nothing received here (and nothing in spam).
The check-list on my "items won" doesn't show payment instructions sent for my latest purchase, but based on my own recent experiences I believe the seller. Curious to know if others (buyers/sellers) have experienced this in the past few weeks. I have a screenshot I can email the TM team if they want to get in touch.
It's only affecting a small proportion of trades - maybe 3 out of 100-150 in my case, which probably makes it harder to pin down.

It's not a glitch, it's a Trademe design. The payment instructions are only ever sent in a small number of cases, and sometimes they are included in the purchase email, other times there is a link in the won email to say additional information, click here. It depends on how you win/buy and what payment options the seller offers as to if they are sent as to how/if they are sent to the buyer. Have been on at TM for years to change this back to how it used to be, ie they used to always be sent as a separate email, but alas, no joy.

That doesn't match my experience - normally you tick the "auto send instructions" box as the seller and they go out as a separate email at the same time as the notice to the buyer that they've won the auction. It seems that it's less than 2% of cases that that doesn't happen, at the moment at least. Otherwise a lot of very clever or psychic people have worked out how to pay me in the other 98%!

There are 4 ways to "win" an auction Martin.
Buy NowPurchase completeFixed price offer acceptedSold with reserve metOnly Buy Now and Purchase complete have the payment instructions appended to them usually, depending on what payment options the seller offers. The other 2 have a link saying View the seller's payment instructions, or Additional information - ViewIf the seller does not offer Ping as a payment method, then the payment instructions ARE sent in a separate email. They are not sent if the seller offers Ping. So, to summarise, it depends how the buyer buys, what payment options the seller offers as to what information and how that information is sent or not to the buyer.0 -
And what I'm describing is situation #5. Sold with reserve met, no Ping, seller has ticked "send instructions", and none were received, either separately or in the notice of won auction. That was what I was hoping I made clear in my initial post.
I am therefore in the position of having won an auction, with no payment details to enable me to complete the transaction, while the seller says - no doubt truthfully - that he ticked the box and that therefore I should have them. I believe him because I've been in his situation twice recently myself. Buyers have contacted me asking for payment details and I thought they'd just overlooked or lost them, but no - the TM system sent neither a link nor separate instructions.0 -

Yes, apparently there is a bug in listing with the iPhone app I think it is as lots of people have been saying the box becomes unticked if they go back and do an edit to the listing, or something along those lines. Easy way to tell in the end is to look at the auction in your won items or sold items and if there is no payment instructions there, they were never sent and somehow the box has become unticked. There are several post about the problem.

I don't know about my current seller but I don't use the iPhone app and have all my multi-item sales on auto-relist via the Products function on the desktop application. When I've gone back to look, the box is still ticked. So I still think we're talking about different situations.

Sort of 2 problems Martin. You can check your own sold items to see if payment instructions were sent/are viewable on site by clicking in to your sold items page (old site) or on the new site by going in to the sold item listing.
std site
New site
If it says there that instructions have been sent, then even if they haven't actually been emailed to the buyer, they can see them on TM, if they look. If it shows as above, then the buyer CAN also see them.
As far as buying, the glitch I mentioned is when a seller lists/edits using the iphone app. So, you may have won something, the seller thinks they ticked the box, but they may have edited the item on their iPhone and the box has become unticked. Or something like that.

Yes. I screen-shot my "won" list last night and this is the relevant bit. The top one is the purchase I'm talking about, which says no instructions were sent, though the seller says the box was ticked. I can't check his settings, of course. Next time it happens to me as seller I'll be sure to screen-shot it for the record. The lower one is an earlier purchase, for comparison.

This has been happening for awhile and they do know about it. Everything that gets won on mine I now have to send the payment instructions and they used to go automatically, I always use the app to list things, so I don't know if it affects the things that get listide from the website, Only the odd thing that gets sold from me do the payment instructions go automatically, and I posted those things so long ago I might have listed them through the website instead of the app

It is shocking I've been very annoyed by trademe and the new update is terrible, and including the android app, also loads of glitches like when typeing your discription glitches up and down and you can't see well you type your discription also the new photo organizeing system, and the most anoying is when you do the buy now and it says the buy now must be higher than the reserve but you haven't ticked run a auction, it's terrible I've emailed trademe and they said it's a flaw and the developers are getting on too it, but trademe sadly you have failed alot of people with the update and people's lively hoods....
