In Trade Sellers not listed as 'In Trade'
Any other traders have issues with Trade Me not dealing with sellers that should be 'In Trade'? I am aware of at least a dozen traders that buy and resell very visibly via what they bid on and by their feedback. I have contacted Trade Me numerous times (and I mean LOTS OF TIMES) so far this year but nothing, those traders are still doing it. I just don't think it's fair that the rest of us have to pay the extra fees while others get away with it.

HI Crystal. How are you reporting these? Trade Me do have a specific category for these in the drop down menus of Community Watch. In my experience they give the seller an opportunity to turn it on themselves via some friendly reminder emails. I'm sure they can also switch it on if the seller seems reluctant to do so and they are obviously in-trade. Sometimes it can be difficult though. People that seem in-trade might not be. Selling off a large estate or private collection are common ones.
At the end of the day it is the Commerce Commission who polices in-trade sellers. The only actual obligation Trade Me has is to make a logo available for sellers to use. So if you find Trade Me isn't acting you can report the member to ComCom as well. I seem to remember doing this once and getting a good result.

Hi there,
Thanks for your response.
I am reporting these via the Community Watch: report this listing and selecting that this trader should be in trade.
I have been reporting them for months (since at least the beginning of the year) and some times multiple times in a week.
They are definitely in trade as I have bid against them myself and if you go back through their feedback you can see all the purchases and even match them to their current listings.
As an example one trader has 7000 items listing under this particular category. Some have hundreds and others have thousands. How can they not see this.
So sorry what is ComCom?

Commerce Commission. It is them who Police in-trade status.

Th messageboard doesn't like my external link to Comcom (Commerce commission) so my post is in pending status for now. Have copied it below. You'll be able to type that in or wait until tomorrow and it should get cleared if you want to click it directly.

Thanks so much.
I don't even sell that much these days but still have to pay extra in fees and see them selling huge amounts at standard fees.
Also annoying because I tried to open up another account to sell my own personal stuff and that was shut down within weeks and yet has gone on for months.

Kia Ora Crystal,
Did you apply to TradeMe to have a second account? - This is a prerequisite to creating a second account.
Refer to article One Trade Me account to rule them all? | Trade Me
If you require both a Business & a Personal account run permission through TradeMe first - Cheers.

Yes, there are a lot whom should be Intrade and are Not, some have been selling in same categories up to 8 -9 years,as I browse there almost daily, and still not Intrade, and sell way more than I do?, I too have reported many of them frequently, and still nothing,
Considering Intrade members pay 9.9% in that category and on shipping too, and the casual sellers only pay 7.9%, it is a very unfair playing field,
I too see them bidding on Auctions I am watching, and have given this Info to Trade Me as proof, and no, still not Intrade,
Yet last week after the $1 res free fees, I had items on Personal account, had a bid on $1 Reserve Kitchen items,
The bidder was selling the exact same items already and very high prices?, I looked into what they were selling, oh yes should be in trade, her recent buys still with Photos in feedback & already reselling, you could match the marks on same items, and yet within 2 days of reporting that member had been changed to Intrade?,
As for my Personal account, I do not sell any of my personal stuff that is same as Intrade stuff on that account, as you cannot sell same stuff on two accounts, so will not put it at risk if same one picks up on it, so sell it on my Intrade account with a Note Personal item, but I have to pay Intrade fees on them which is not that great,
So maybe this is why your personal account was shut down? similar Items, similar back grounds?, similar shipping, same location, but totally different accounts?, many years ago I picked up someone using 4 accounts, why?, using same backgrounds in Photos, and a bright colour that stuck in your mind, other items outside on same fence post Lol!.
I sell personal stuff on personal like I am an amateur, poor photos with whatever back ground, Totally different to my Intrade, but these days it is rarely used, I just put stuff on my Intrade and be done with it,

I agree wholeheartedly Flossy63. I am in-trade and have for some time reported other members who are clearly reselling and who should be in-trade, they have multiple listings of the same item and list another as soon as one sells. It's been years of reporting the same sellers using community watch, without anything changing. I suspect they just ignore Trademe's email's requesting they declare themselves in-trade.
A lot of trademe's policies are not really policies, as they are not enforced. If they are going to advertise criteria for being considered in-trade, then they need to enforce their own policy and criteria.
I consider it to be very unfair to pay a higher success rate %, which also applies to my shipping costs, when I am not offered anything additional to a casual seller. In fact casual sellers can take advantage of success fee free days regularly (which I am excluded from), and dont have to adhere to any obligations under the consumer guarantees act.
The very sellers which Trademe should be encouraging (businesses and in-trade) are the very sellers they have chosen to penalise the greatest.
I recall when Trademe previously increased success fees for in-trade sellers (while not increasing casual selling fees), I emailed Trademe to ask what additional benefits I would receive for being in-trade, I was told to look out for exciting initiatives coming my way. That was over a year ago, I'm still waiting

Glad to know I am not the only one feeling this way.
I think we all need to start complaining to the CC about these traders and even Trade Me as they are not really enforcing rules they put in place to stay in line with CC rules.
They seem to like enforcing some rules but not others.
Most of us have been with Trade Me for many years, I personally have been there nearly from the beginning and have be a good seller contributing to TM wealth for many years.
Any like you say (and I have also done the same in some of my correspondence), they always seem to favour the general seller/buyer than those of us In Trade who likely provide them with most of their funds and abide by the rules (specially when we have more than a general seller).
I have recently had them pay out for a couple of my items that have gone missing which is great specially with the way the postal system is these days, although one of them actually turned up after they paid out so 'delayed' rather than 'lost' but it in no way makes up for all that I have contributed to TM over the years. The last few years have seen my sales drop dramatically and I have not been a Top Seller for years so definitely do not have any benefit whatsoever to being In Trade. And because I have 2 other part time jobs already to survive (was fine when my sales were thriving), I have to restrict my postals times which doesn't help my sales but I just don't have the time.
I am considered moving to FB MP as an alternative to at least get some money coming in without any fees.

Yes I agree, there is no benefit anymore being Intrade unless you can keep Top Seller, and get the discount on success fees, but too much competition now from casual sellers whom should be in trade and be paying correct fees, what they are not paying in fees they are using to get way above there listing allowance for sure, as you say the amount of listings they have??,
But when you have casual sellers selling Heaps of New items and within listing selling fast only ?? amount left?, or this is the last one, well if they have or had multiples of Brand New Items, definite sign Intrade,
And these sellers take advantage of the success fee free days too?, yep very unfair playing field for those that are being honest and just trying to put food on the table, and not out to be come a millionaire, just want to live comfortably pay the bills, and also pay tax on their earnings too, also makes you wonder how many casual sellers are paying tax on their sales?
