We'll show you how to use Messages, to chat with the buyer or seller.

Instant message the buyer or seller to get your trade sorted.

 

Using Messages

  • Private conversations between the buyer and seller.
  • Available for won or sold listings, on the Trade Me app.
  • Conversations expire 45 days after the listing closes.
  • Available for eligible listings.

1. Select My Trade Me profile-framed from the footer.
2. Select Won trophy-tick or Sold tag-tick.
3. Select the listing.
4. Select Message the seller or Message the buyer.

To use Messages, download the Trade Me app:

Having problems communicating with the buyer or seller? We can help.

Notifications

Make sure notifications for Messages are enabled in the app:

1. Go to My Trade Me profile-framed and select Profile & Account profile-framed.
2. Select Settings settings, then select Notifications alert.
3. Select Turn on Trade Me notifications.

3. Enable Receive push notifications.

Mute

Notifications can be muted for a conversation.

  1. Open the message thread from the listing.
  2. Tap info button in the top-right, then tap Mute.

 

You'll still receive messages, but won't be notified for that conversation – until you unmute.

Blocking a user

  1. Open the message thread from the listing.
  2. Tap info button in the top-right, then tap Block this member.


Blocked members can't message you – unless you unblock them. We don't notify them when they're blocked, but they'll get an error if they try to message you.

Blocking a member's messages doesn't Blacklist them from trading with you.

If a member is being abusive or inappropriate, please let us know right away.

Messages guidelines

We expect members to conduct themselves honestly and in good faith at all times. Keep it family-friendly, and don't send:

  • credit card details
  • personal details (such as email addresses)
  • abusive or inappropriate messages
  • website links.

Eligible listings

  • Casual sellers (personal memberships) only.
  • General Marketplace or Motors category.
  • Won via auction, 'Buy Now', or 'Make an Offer'.
  • Buyer and seller are both using the Trade Me app (v108.2 or later).
