COVID-19 changes: FAQ

This is an evolving situation – these FAQs will be updated in accordance with the relevant COVID-19 alert level.

Can I buy and sell stuff on Trade Me?

At alert level 1 and 2 you can buy and sell all items onsite as normal.

If you’re an in-trade seller based outside of New Zealand, you’ll need to have registered with us to let us know your business is up and running before you can trade. 

Can I offer pick-up?

Yes, at alert level 1 and 2 you can offer for your item to be picked up. At alert level 2, you must maintain a 1-metre distance from the buyer at all times.

I’m waiting for my item to arrive through ‘Book a courier’ – where is it?

You can track your item from the ‘Won’ page on ‘My Trade Me’ – make sure you’re doing this on the desktop site. 

Can someone come and look at or test drive my car?

Yes, this is allowed at alert level 1 and 2. However, at alert level 2, you must maintain a minimum 1-metre distance from the potential buyer at all times.

What are the restrictions for selling my home?

At alert level 2, real estate agents and valuers can enter a vendor’s home to complete an appraisal. Prospective buyers can attend open homes or arrange a private viewing, provided contact tracing systems are in place and viewing can occur safely. Open homes, rental viewings and public auctions of less than 100 people can take place.

Can open homes still take place?

Open homes can take place under alert level 2, provided contact tracing systems are in place and the viewing can occur safely. At alert level 1, open homes can operate as normal. 

Can I move into a flat I find on Trade Me?

Yes, you can move properties if required. Please make sure you are following the Government’s alert level restrictions.
